CASCADE LOCKS, Ore. - The Old Dominion University coed sailing team kicked off the 2011 Gill / ICSA Dinghy National Championships Monday on the Columbia River Gorge in Cascade Locks, Ore. After six races, the Monarchs sit in 17th place overall with 78 points.

Hobart & William Smith has the early lead, while Boston College and Yale are both within 10 points of the top spot.

Sophomore skipper Dillon Paiva and freshman crew Julia Wiesner sailed just a pair of B-Division races on the opening day, claiming 14th in both. The duo's 28 points is good enough for 16th overall.

In A-Division sailing, two-time senior women's All-American Stephanie Roble joined crew Emily Reich for four races. After a solid sixth-place result in the opening race, ODU finished outside the Top 10 in the next three to end A-Division day one in 17th.

Racing is scheduled to begin Tuesday at 1 p.m. eastern time for the second day of the Gill/ICSA Dinghy National Championship.
