CASCADE LOCKS, Ore. - The Old Dominion women's sailing team sits in first-place overall at the Sperry Top-Sider/ICSA Women's National Championships entering the final day.
A total of seven races were sailed on Wednesday and the Lady Monarchs posted Top 5 finishes in four and only finished outside the Top 10 in one race.
ODU leads St. Mary's by a single point in the 18-team field, while Rhode Island and Connecticut College are within seven points. Yale, Georgetown and Brown are also with in striking distance entering the final day of racing.
Senior skipper Morgan Wilson and sophomore crew Shannon Wilkins have ODU in third-place in B-Division racing, while senior All-America skipper Stephanie Roble and junior crew Emily Reich have ODU's A-Division boat in fourth.
Old Dominion has won the women's sailing national championship on three occasions, with the last occurrence coming in 2002. The Lady Monarchs finished third last year and fourth in 2009.
Racing is scheduled to commence at 12 noon eastern time Thursday and the day will finish off with an awards banquet starting at 9 p.m. The Women's All-America Team will be announced as well as the Quantum Women's Sailor of The Year.
