ITHACA, N.Y. - The 14th ranked Old Dominion sailing Monarchs finished fifth at the MAISA Team Race Regatta this past weekend at Cornell's Merrill Family Sailing Center.
The Monarchs sailed to a 3-4 record in the first round-robin, posting wins over SUNY Maritime, Washington College and Cornell. In round-robin number two, ODU went 4-3, including a big win over first-place finisher and third-ranked Georgetown.
Old Dominion's 7-7 overall record was just short of qualifying it for the Final Four. No. 6 St. Mary's College, No. 10 Hobart/William Smith, No. 3 Georgetown and No. 8 Navy battled it out in the final four with Georgetown narrowly prevailing.
ODU's skippers for the regatta included Stephanie Roble, Dillon Paiva, Gavin Rudolph and Brady Stagg. Crew members were Morgan Wilson, Jessica Milligan, Emily Reich and Julia Weisner.
ODU sailing will return to the water April 16-17 at the America Trophy Regatta in Annapolis, Md. and the Wick Shrew Women's Regatta in New London, Conn.
