Tomchick Wins Fourth Game As ODU Beats Northeastern, 10-3

NORFOLK, VA--Old Dominion University junior righthander Ben Tomchick (Virginia Beach, VA.) picked up his fourth win of the season with nine strikeouts and the Monarchs (9-12/2-3) pounded out 15 hits to defeat Northeastern 10-3 in a CAA contest Saturday at the Bud Metheny Baseball Complex. Every ODU starter got a hit today. This also evens the series at one game each.

Tomchick pitched seven innings, scattering 11 hits with one walk and season high nine strikeouts toimprove his record to 4-1 with a 1.95 earned run average which ranks second in the CAA. Freshman Ben Verlander (Maidens, VA.)andsenior Adam Wisniewski (Norfolk, Va.) pitched the final two innings of shutout baseball.

Junior firstbaseman Chris Baker (Chesapeake, Va.), sophomore leftfielder Shawn Sizemore (Newport News, Va.) and senior righthfielderNate Hartman (Orlando, FL.) each knocked in two runs for ODU onthe day. Hartman also had three hits in four at bats.

Josh Wright (Bridgewater, VA.)and Brent Frazier (Fairfax, Station, Va.) each scored twice, while freshman second baseman Brian Bashara (Norfolk, Va.), Frazier, Sizemore and Kenny Stoneback (Colonial Heights, Va.) each had two hits on the day for the Monarchs.

Northeastern was led by centerfielder Aaron Barbosa with four hits and firstbaseman Matt Miller with three.

The third and final game of the series is Sunday at 1 p.m.
