RICHMOND, VA--Brandon Shelton's Sacrifice Fly in the top of the 10th inning lifted theMonarchs of Old Dominion to a 3-2 victory over the Spiders of Richmond Tuesday afternoon.

ODU junior firstbaseman Chris Baker (Chesapeake, Va.-Deep Creek HS) extended his nation tying hitting streak to 33 straight games when he singled home senior Donnie Corsner (Virginia Beach, VA.) in the third inning to tie the game at 2-2. Baker is currently tied for first nationally with Kennesaw State's Ronnie Freeman whohit into his 33rd straight game against UAB today.

With the game tied at 2-2 in the 10th inning, Kenny Stoneback (Colonial Heights, VA.) led off with a double and was then sacrificed to second by Brent Frazier (Fairfax Station, VA.). Brandon Shelton (Chesapeake, VA.) then flied out to rightfield to bring home Stoneback with the lead run.

Adam Wisniewski (Norfolk, VA. )came on in the 10th for ODU and after a lead-off single by Ryan Mallory,Wisniewski then struck out the side for his second save of the young season. The victory wentto freshman Ben Verlander (Maidens, VA.) who fanned two in two innings of relief. ODU pitchers Louis Singleton (Norfolk, VA.), Mike Ney (Landisville, NJ.) , Verlander and Wisniewski struckout eight and walked only one through the 10 innings.

Shelton knocked in two runs for the Monarchs on the day as he also brought home Brandon Stahl inthe third inning on a single. ODU made the most on four hits.

Richmond took a 2-0 lead in the first when Mike Merganthaler doubled and scored on JacobMayer's single. Mayer later scored on a wild pitch.

The Monarchs return to action on Friday at the Homewood Suites Shootout in Charleston,SC.ODU will play Wright State Friday at 12 noon. On Saturday, ODU will play Wright State againat 11 am, then play The Citadel at 3 p.m. They will conclude the Tournament with anothergame against The Citadel on Sunday at 2 p.m.
