Swimming & Diving Falls to N.C. State on Senior Day

NORFOLK, Va. -- The Old Dominion men's and women's swimming and diving teams fell to North Carolina State on Saturday at the J.C. "Scrap" Chandler Pool.

The ODU men dropped to 6-3 overall with a 163-136 setback to the Wolfpack.

The Monarchs were led by four-time CAA Swimmer of the Week Arni Arnason's (Mosfellsbaer, Iceland) four top times, as well as senior captain Mikael Ramkvist's (Bjarred, Sweden) three first place times, including a sweep of the backstroke events.

Arnason logged individual wins in the 100 breast (55.43), 200 breast (2:02.47), and 50 free (20.90). Ramkvist won the 100 back in a time of 51.74 as well as the 200 back clocking in at 1:51.15.

Ramkvist and Arnason also helped the Monarchs to a win in the 200 medley relay. Together with junior Birkir Jonsson (Keflavik, Iceland) and freshman Sidni Hoxha (Tirane, Albania) they recorded a first place time of 1:32.99.

Sophomore Jason Brame (Lynchburg, Va.) also picked up win. He posted a time of 4:05.11 to lead the Monarchs to victory in the 400 IM.

The ODU women's team meanwhile fell to 8-5 overall with the 194-99 loss. The Lady Monarchs had three first place times in a pair of individual results - 100 back and 100 breast - as well as a win in the 200 medley relay.

Senior co-captain April Barrientos (Va. Beach, Va.) continued her winning ways in the 100 back as she logged a time of 57.15 in the event. Junior Erla Harladsdottir (Njardvik, Iceland) brought home a top time in the 100 breast by hitting the wall first in a time of 1:04.28.

Barrientos and Harladsdottir also helped the Lady Monarchs to victory in the 200 medley relay. They joined freshman Malin Ekstrand (Halmstad, Sweden) and junior Emma Forbes (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) in collecting a first place time of 1:44.89

The Old Dominion men's and women's swimming and diving teams return to the pool in their quest to bring home a Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) championship. The Monarchs and Lady Monarchs are next in action at the conference championships hosted by George Mason from February 23-26.
