NORFOLK, Va. - Five Old Dominion field hockey standouts were named to the 2010 University Division All-State squad, announced by the Virginia Association of Sports Information Directors (VaSID). The five representatives were the second most in the state, trailing only Virginia.
Senior All-American Loran Hatch, classmate Paige Clutter and sophomore Maartje van Rijswijk were all named to the first team, while senior Sami Richardson and junior goalkeeper Devon Seifert were chosen for the second team.
Hatch, the program's 29th All-American, posted team-highs in both points (41) and goals (19) in 2010. She ended the year tied for the most goals in the Colonial Athletic Association and the midfielder ranked second in the league in total points. Hatch was honored at the end of the regular season as a First Team All-CAA selection and as the CAA Defensive Player of the year.
After leading ODU to its 14th CAA Title, Hatch was named the conference tournament's Most Outstanding Player. In addition to being named an All-American, Hatch was also one of three Lady Monarchs to be selected to the All-South Region team.
Clutter led the CAA and ranked 11th nationally with 0.83 assists per game. The midfielder was second on the squad with 34 points on seven goals and 20 assists.
Van Rijswijk had a phenomenal first season as a Lady Monarch. The sophomore transfer posted 33 points on the year and her 16 goals were second best on the team and third in the entire CAA. The forward was honored at the end of the regular season as an All-CAA First Team selection.
Richardson anchored an Old Dominion backline that boasted seven shutouts and limited an additional five opponents to a lone goal this season. The Lady Monarchs held nationally-ranked Boston University, Drexel and Michigan scoreless this season. The senior was also selected to the CAA All-Tournament Team and the All-South Region Team.
Seifert took over as the Old Dominion starting goalkeeper when the Lady Monarchs were 1-5 after six games. With her in the cage, ODU went on to win 12 of its final 18 games and advance to the NCAA Tournament second round. Seifert made 87 saves on the year, held opponents to 2.1 goals per game and was tops in the CAA with seven shutouts in 2010.
