No. 12 Old Dominion Draws No. 8 Michigan In First Round Of 2010 NCAA Tournament

NORFOLK, Va. - The No. 12 Old Dominion field hockey team will take on No. 8 Michigan in the first round of the 2010 NCAA Tournament. The Lady Monarchs, making their 28th appearance in the NCAA Tournament, will take on the Wolverines on Saturday, Nov. 13 at 2 p.m. in Chapel Hill, N.C.

First and second round host North Carolina, the No. 2 seed in the tournament, will take on Stanford in the other round-of-16 game in Chapel Hill. The winners of the two contests will square off on Sunday, Nov. 14 at 2 p.m. for the right to go to the Final Four.

ODU (12-10) won its 14th Colonial Athletic Association field hockey championship with a 1-0 double overtime win at No. 17 Drexel on Sunday. The Lady Monarchs are led by CAA Defensive Player of the Year Loran Hatch, who leads the squad with 41 points on 19 goals and three assists.

Paige Clutter ranks amongst the nations best with a CAA-high 20 assists and First Team All-CAA performer Maartje van Rijswijk has netted 14 goals on the year. Junior goalkeeper Devon Seifert is 11-5 for the Lady Monarchs in 16 starts this season.

Michigan (15-6) won the 2010 Big Ten Tournament Championship by topping No. 7 Ohio State, 2-1. The Wolverines have six wins over Top 20 opponents this season and are led by Rachael Mack's 36 points on 16 goals and four assists.

The last time Old Dominion and Michigan played in the tournament was in the 2005 quarterfinal in Columbus, Ohio, with ODU winning, 3-2. All-time, the Lady Monarchs hold a 6-4 edge over the Wolverines.

Important Parking Information

Fans planning to attend Saturday's action should be aware that the UNC-Virginia Tech football game at 3:30 p.m. that day will affect field hockey parking, as the lots adjacent to Henry Stadium are reserved for football permit holders.

A complimentary shuttle will be available for NCAA Field Hockey spectators beginning at 10:30 a.m. from the Bowles Drive bus stop (lower) -- this stop is opposite the entrances to the Manning Lot (maps can be found at www.dps.unc.edu.). Look for signage indicating NCAA FIELD HOCKEY SHUTTLE. The Manning Lot game day parking fee is $10.00. Fans are encouraged to arrive early, especially for the 2 p.m. game, in order to avoid congestion related to the football game. The parking shuttle will make constant round trips until approximately 4 p.m.
