MADISON, Wis. - The Old Dominion women's sailing team wrapped up the first day of the championship round at the 2010 ICSA National Championships in fourth-place. The 18-team field will hit the water tomorrow to sail eight A-Division races and 10 B-Division races before a champion is crowned.
The eighth-ranked Lady Monarchs posted eight top-five finishes and totaled 129 team points. Charleston got off to a spectacular start and never looked back, garnering four victories and seven second's in just 18 races.
The Cougars lead the field with 59 points. Top-ranked Boston College is in second (94 points) and Tufts is third (117 points).
Junior skipper Stephanie Roble and sophomore crew Emily Reich started slow in the A-Division, but a third-place result in the seventh race and a second-place finish in the eighth race got the duo on track. The Lady Monarchs ended the day in fourth in the A-Division with 10 races sailed.
Senior skipper Katrina Williams and freshman crew Shannon Wilkins netted five top-five finishes in just eight races for a sixth place ending to their day in the B-Divison.
