NORFOLK, VA--Senior Chris Boggs (Front Royal, VA.) pitched a complete game victory and senior shortstop Chris Buss (Rosemount, MN.) knocked in a career high six runs to lead ODU (21-29/8-12) to an 11-2 CAA victory over Delaware (23-24/5-15) Saturday afternoon.
Boggs fanned eight, issued no walks and scattered ten hits in picking up his first win of the season.
Buss went four-for five on the day. He knocked in a run on a Delaware error in the first, doubled Home Jake McAloose (Virginia Beach, VA.) in the third, singled in Edgar Hernandez (Luquillo, Puerto Rico) in the fourth, singled in Donnie Corsner (Virginia Beach, Va.) in the sixth and doubled home Hernandez and McAloose in the eighth.
Corsner, Hernandez, McAloose and John Malbon (Virginia Beach, Va. ) each had two hits on the day, while leading hitter Chris Baker (Chesapeake, Va.) doubled in the eighth to keep his hitting streak alive at 24 which is the nations sixth longest hitting streak this year. He also ties the ODU single season hit streak set in 2000 by Jared Musolf. Hernandez scored three times.
Delaware scored two runs in the fifth inning on an RBI single by Pat Dameron and RBI groundout by Ryan Cuneo. The Fightin' Blue Hens loaded the bases in the ninth, but the Monarchs turned one of two double plays on the day.
The third and final game of the series is Sunday at 2 p.m. The eight ODU seniors Chris Boggs, Chris Buss, John Malbon, Jake McAloose, Cameron Scott, Cory Toth, Austin Wright and Robbie Watkins will be honored prior to game time.
