NORFOLK, Va. - Attacker Ashley Kellogg posted a team-high two goals on senior night, but No. 9 James Madison jumped out to a big first half lead and picked up a 13-5 win over Old Dominion Friday evening at the Powhatan Sports Complex.
Kellogg now has 123 career goals, just one score behind fifth-place Danielle Hensil (2000-03) and two behind fourth-place Kelly Kimener (2005-09) on the all-time Lady Monarchs goal scoring list.
Senior Nicole McMahon and sophomore's Lisa Bernardini and Rebecca Hartrum also scored for Old Dominion (2-11, 0-5 CAA).
James Madison (12-2, 5-0) was led by Mary Kate Lomady's five scores and Monica Zabel's four assists.
James Madison controlled play for the first 10 minutes, racing out to a 4-0 lead. Lomady had three of the Dukes four scores during the run.
Kellogg broke the ODU drought as she followed up her own shot that was saved and hit the ball past the JMU goalkeeper to cut the Madison lead to 4-1 at the 8:03 mark.
The Dukes began to pull away though at the end of the opening stanza, getting three goals in the final 6:12 to take a 7-1 lead into the intermission.
James Madison continued its dominance to start the second half, opening the frame on a 4-0 run in just 2:45.
However, the Lady Monarchs dug in defensively from that point on, holding JMU scoreless for the next 24:10. Trailing 11-1, ODU scored the next four goals to force a Dukes timeout.
JMU's Ashley Kimener would put the game out of reach though, netting consecutive goals with under four minutes to play. Her third and final goal of the evening put the Dukes up by the final score, 13-5.
Old Dominion will close out the 2010 season with a pair of road CAA contests. The Lady Monarchs will next be at George Mason on Sunday at 1 p.m.
