Monarchs Host Towson In Three-Game CAA Series

NORFOLK, VA-- The Monarchs host Towson in a three-game CAA series starting Fridaynight at 7 p.m. It's Flood The Bud night as ODU will attempt to break theschool's single game attendance mark of 2,125 set in 1984. Tickets are one dollar and ODU students get in free with their student ID.

There will also be a student pre-game picnic with free food starting at 6 p.m. Other promotional give-a-ways will include 500 dollars to the student organizationthat wins the Spirit Contest, a free Airtran Round Trip plane ticket to theFan of the Game, and the first 75 students in the stadium will get a freeODU Baseball Tee-shirt.

The Tigers come into the series with a 12-27 record and 6-9 in the CAA, whileODU is 16-25 overall and 4-8 in the CAA.

ODU is led in hitting by Kenny Stoneback at .343, followed by Chris Baker at .333and Jake McAloose at .316. Nathan Hartman leads the team with 33 RBI followed byBaker with 30. Four Monarchs have five homers. They are Jake McAloose, DonnieCosner, Josh Wright and Joe Velleggia.

On the mound, Kyle Hald leads the CAA in strikeouts with 69 and Ben Tomchickis eighth with 47. Hald leads the CAA in complete games and is tied with KevinMunson of JMU, Cameron Roth of UNCW and Matt Davenport of W&M with six wins.

Hald is scheduled to pitch Friday, Chris Boggs on Saturday and Ben Tomchick onSunday. Towson is scheduled to throwMike Trionfo on Friday, Mike Bronakowski onSaturday and AUstin Hurd on Sunday.

The Tigers are led by Chris Wychock with a .362 average, 36 RBI and nine homers.

ODU leads the series, 18-15. The two teams did not play last year. In 2008,Towson beat the Monarchs three out of four, including a win in the CAA Tournament.
