ITHACA, N.Y. - The 18th ranked Old Dominion sailing team finished seventh out of 18 teams this past weekend at the America Trophy Regatta, the MAISA Spring Co-Ed Dinghy Championships. The top-eight finishers qualified for the ICSA National Co-Ed Dinghy Semifinals.

Stephanie Roble, Michael Komar and Miles Martschink took seventh in the A Division with five top-five finishes. Alan Alkins, Dillon Paiva, Michael Komar and Wilson Stout earned an eighth-place result after getting into the top-five twice.

Third-ranked St. Mary's won the regatta, while second-ranked Georgetown was second, New York Maritime was third, ninth-ranked Navy was fourth and 11th-ranked Hobart/William Smith was fifth. No. 16 Washington College and Merchant Marine rounded out the top eight.

Saturday's races were sailed in a West wind of 10 knots in the morning which built to 15 knots from the Northwest later in the day. Ten A Division and eight B Division races sailed on Saturday. Six A Division and eight B Division races sailed on Sunday. Sunday began with morning rain and 8-12 knot wind out of the West-Northwest. By the end of the day, conditions turned sunny with wind of 5-10 knots out of the North.

ODU will sail at the ICSA Semifinal May 1-2 in Seattle, Wash.

The fifth-ranked Lady Monarchs were also in action this past weekend, finishing ninth in a 16-team field at the 2010 Women's Emily Wick/Sloop Shrew.

Katrina Williams and Jessica Milligan had a solid fifth-place finish in the B Division. The duo won a race and had five top-five results.

The ODU sailing team returns to action next weekend at the Thompson Trophy, hosted by Coast Guard. The team will also compete in the Admirals Cup and MAISA Women's.
