WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The Old Dominion men's and women's swimming and diving squads swept their meet Saturday with the George Washington Colonials. The men improved to 3-1 on the year in a 108-89 win, while the women upped their overall mark to 3-3 with a 112-77 victory.
The ODU men earned eight wins en-route to their victory over the Colonials. Kristian Ramkvist (Bjarred, Sweden) led the way with three victories on the afternoon.
The 200 medley relay squad earned a win with the combined efforts of Kristian Ramkvist, Phillip Brooks, Kevin Latimer, and Johan Lundberg with a time of 1:38.36.
Jason Brame (Lynchburg, Va.) took home the top time in the 1000 free. Brame logged a time of 9:59.71 as the only competitior to hit the wall in under the 10-minute mark.
Chad Gangwer (Va. Beach, Va.) gave the Monarchs another win with his 200 free performance. Gangwer took first place with his time of 1:45.81.
Arni Arnson (Msfellsbaer, Iceland) and Steven Loccisano (Fredericksburg, Va.) finished back-to-back in the 50 free. Arnason took first in a time of 21.18, while Loccisano logged a time of 22.04 for second place.
Kristian Ramkvist (Bjarred, Sweden) added his second victory of the day in the 200 IM. After picking up a win with the 200 medley relay team, he swam to a first place finish in the 200 IM with a time of 1:55.79. Kevin Latimer finished second in the event clocking in at a time of 1:59.97.
In the 100 fly on the men's side, Eric Doordan and Brian Fischetti (Richmond, Va.) finished one-two. Doordan won the event in a time of 52.86, closely followed by Fischetti's second place time of 52.91.
In the 100 free, the Monarchs took the first four spots led by Loccisano's first place finish of 47.60. Gangwer closely followed in second (47.66), with Lundberg in third (47.73), and Gifford in fourth (49.53).
In the 100 back, Ramkvist picked up his third event victory claimed the top spot in the 100 back. He recorded a top time of 53.26.
On the women's side, the Lady Monarchs won seven events en-route to victory over the Colonials. Senior Elizaveta Moiseeva (Moscow, Russia) led the ODU women with a pair of victories in the freestyle.
Elizaveta Moiseeva (Moscow, Russia) and Lauren Johnson (Baltimore, Md.) were the top two finisher in the 1000 free. Moisseva won the event with her time of 10:46.93, while Johnson took second clocking in at 11:09.80.
Kelli North (Newport News, Va.), Carrie Goodman (Glen Alen, Va.), and Emma Forbes (Peekskill, N.Y.) took places one through three in the 200 free. North won the event with a time of 1:57.91, the only swimmer to clock in under the two-minute mark. Goodman placed second with a time of 2:00.29 and Forbes took third with a time of 2:02.17.
Erla Haraldsdottir (Njardvik, Iceland) and Agata Nowak (Gorzow, Poland) finished back-to-back in the 50 free. Haraldsdottir swam to a first place time of 24.73, followed by Nowak in second with a time of 24.80.
In the 200 IM, Maddie Stiles (Fairfax, Va.) and Lauren Fiskus (Yorktown, Va.) finished at the top of the field. Stiles took the top time of 2:13.61 while Fiskus claimed second place with a time of 2:14.96.
Nowak earned a win on the afternoon with her performance in the 100 fly. She logged a time of 57.80, followed by Jessica Hubert's (Newport News, Va.) second place time of 58.88, and Ashley Lushsinger (Va. Beach, Va.) in third with a time of 1:00.51
Moisseva picked up a win for the Lady Monarchs in the 100 free. She claimed the top time of 54.99 in the event. Goodman meanwhile took second with a time of 55.38.
April Barrientos (Va. Beach, Va.) added to the Lady Monarch win column with her 100 back time. She logged a first place finish by hitting the wall as the only competitor in under a minute at 57.63.
