NORFOLK, VA-- The ODU Soccer Monarchs hit the road to Fairfax, Va to take on thePatriots of George Mason University Saturday night at 7 p.m.
ODU is battling for one of the four spots in the upcoming CAAChampionships. The Monarchs need a win to have a chance for that final spot.
Junior forward Victor Freeman leads the Patriots in scoring with 18 points on seven goals and four assists, followed by Sophomore forward Draymond Washington with 10 points on four goals and two assists and junior Ernesto Marquez with 11 points on four goals and three assists. GMU goalkeeper Sean Kelley has a CAA best 75 savesthis season.
Mason leads the series, 16-13-1. THe Patriots defeated the Monarchs, 3-1 last year,but ODU had beaten Mason four straight times prior to that.
ODU freshman Shane Howard is tied for third in the CAA with six assists, while fellow newcomer Yannick Smith is tied for seventh in the league with five assists.
Senior Nane Joseph is tied for fourth in the CAA in game winning goals with three,while junior goalkeeper Evan Newton leads the CAA in shutouts with eight. Newton is fourth in the CAA in save percentage at .787.
