WILMINGTON, N.C. -- The Old Dominion men's and women's swimming and diving squads compete against UNC-Wilmington Saturday in their first Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) meet of the 2009-10 season on Saturday.

Both the ODU men's and women's teams enter this weekend's competition at 1-0 on the year having swept the College of Charleston last week. The Monarchs defeated the Cougars 198-94 behind a trio of Monarchs, senior Kristian Ramkvist (Bjarred, Sweden), sophomore Arni Arnason (Msfellsbaer, Iceland), and junior Steven Loccisano (Fredericksburg, Va.) , who took home two individual event victories in the season opener. The Lady Monarchs meanwhile won their meet with the Cougars, 185-106, with freshman Jessica Hubert (Newport News, Va.) making her ODU swimming debut to help her squad to victory in three events - .

The UNC-Wilmington men, who have won the last eight straight CAA titles, gave the ODU men's team its only defeat last season with the Seahawks taking a 160-141 win ending a 15-win meet streak for the Monarchs. The Monarchs finished second behind UNC-Wilmington men at the 2009 CAA Championships.

The UNC-Wilmington women placed third at last year's CAA championship, but during the season the Seahawk women fell, 151-145, to the Lady Monarchs. In that meet, junior Agata Nowak (Gorzow, Poland) broke a 25-year old ODU 100 fly record with her time of 56.65. Nowak would later break her own at the CAA Championships, an event where she finished second.

Both UNC-Wilmington squads enter the pool at 0-1 having suffered losses at Duke. The two Seahawk teams will host Gardner-Webb on Friday, before hosting Old Dominion on Saturday at 1 p.m.

Following Saturday's meet, the Monarch and Lady Monarch swimming and diving teams will return home for a two-day meet featuring CAA competition. The men will host Drexel and William & Mary while the women welcome Drexel, William & Mary, Northeastern, and James Madison at the J.C. "Scrap" Chandler Pool November 6th-8th.
