Four Monarchs Participate At Swedish Nationals

Linköping, SWEDEN - Four members of the Old Dominion men's swimming team were in action this summer at the Swedish nationals with rising junior Mikael Ramkvist (Bjarred, Sweden) capturing the title in the 100 backstroke.

In addition to his first place finish in the 100 back (2:08.74), Ramkvist placed third in the 50 backstroke (27.17) and fifth in the 200 backstroke (2:08.74). Ramkvist won three All-CAA awards last season as member of the freestyle and medley relay squads.

Kristian Ramkvist (Bjarred, Sweden) placed second in the 200 breaststroke (2:18.85), .8 seconds behind Anton Lagergvist the winner, fourth in the 200 individual medley (2:07.04), fifth in the 100 backstroke (59.78), and ninth in the 50 breaststroke (29.91). Ramkvist, who will be a senior on the Monarch squad this fall, earned All-CAA honors in the 200 IM last season after placing third at the CAA Championships in the event with the second best time in ODU history.

Also swimming was senior captain Johan Lundberg (Fjaras, Sweden), who captured 10th in the 50 breaststroke (30.13) and 13th in the 100 butterfly (57.77). Lundburg, who has won 13 total All-CAA accolades with the Monarchs, last season picked up seven all-conference awards including the 100 and 200 breaststroke events.

Kris Hagg (Skovde, Sweden), a rising junior in the ODU program, also participated at the 2009 Swedish National Championships in the relays.

The Old Dominion men's swimming and diving team finished last season at 10-1 overall and placed second at the 2009 CAA Swimming and Diving Championships behind seven-time defending champion UNC-Wilmington.
