Brett Harris Named To Collegiate Baseball's Freshmen All-American Team

TUCSON, ARIZ--Old Dominion University Freshman pitcher/designated hitter Brett Harris (Chesapeake, Va.) has been named to the 2009 Louisville Slugger/Collegiate Baseball Freshmen All-American team.

Harris, the Colonial Athletic Association's Rookie of the Year was 6-4 this season with a 4.95 earned run average as he led the CAA in complete games with five.He fanned 49 batters in 80 innings of work. Harris also hit .303 with seven doubles and 31 RBI as a designated hitter and outfielder.

Harris fanned a career high eight batters against Rutgers (3-7) and George Mason (3-20). He also knocked in four runs in a game against VCU (5-10) and UNC Wilmington (5-16), andhad two doubles in a game against Hofstra. Harris' longest hitting streak was nine games. He was selected CAA Rookie of the Week twice this season.

Harris becomes the 12th Monarch newcomer since 1985 to be named Freshmen All-American byCollegiate Baseball Newspaper.

The national squad is headed by Collegiate Baseball's Freshman Pitcher of the Year Trevor Bauer ofUCLA and Player of the Year Anthony Rendon of Rice.
