ODU Returns To Action Wednesday Against Longwood

The ODU Monarchs return from exam break with a non-conference matchup against theLancers of Longwood University. Game time has been moved up from 7 to 3 p.m. todaybecause of the threat of rain in the Hampton Roads area. ODU leads the series 7-2, but the Lancers defeatedThe Monarchs, 8-2 back on Feb. 25th.

Longwood was led by Casey Havers with three hits and Robby Newman with two hits andThree runs batted in. John Walker pitched a complete game seven hitter, with no walks and five strikeouts.

Last week, freshman Josh Wright was named CAA Rookie of the Week for the second timethis year.

Jake McAloose leads ODU with a .365 batting average, followed by Donnie Corsner at .329. Josh Wright leads the Monarchs in homers with eight, and RBI with 39.

Chris Boggs and Ben Tomchick are the top two in the CAA in earned run average. Boggs has a 2.55 ERA and Tomchich is at 2.96. Brett Harris ranks tenth at 4.48. Cameron Scott is third in the CAA in stolen bases with 18, while Max Most leads the league in walks with 37.

Longwood is led in hitting by Brant Jones at .404 with six homers and 40 RBI, followed by Phil Cerreto at .399 with eight homers and 49 RBI, and Jonathan Quigley with eight homers and 43 RBI. John Walker is their top pitcher with a 5-4 record and a 5.21 ERA. Mark Montgomery is 3-3 with 55 strikeouts in 51.2 innings. Longwood thus far is 3-3 against CAA teams.

ODU returns to the CAA wars this weekend when they travel to Richmond, Va. fora three-game series against VCU. Game time Friday night at the Diamond is 7 p.m.
