NORFOLK, VA--Old Dominion (22-25/13-11) defeated UNC Wilmington (28-21/10-8), 9-6Saturday afternoon and clinched a spot in next week's Colonial Athletic Association Tournament.The CAA Tournament begins Wednesday at Brooks Field in Wilmington, NC.
Freshman designated hitter Brett Harris (Chesapeake, Va.) knocked in four runs for ODU. Hedoubled home Jake McAloose (Virginia Beach, Va.) in the first to give the Monarchs a 1-0 lead.In the second inning with the basis loaded, he tripled home Jake McAloose, Edgar Hernandez (Luquillo, PR.), and Kenny Stoneback (Colonial Heights, VA.).
Max Most (Port Washington, NY.) knocked in two runs with a triple in the eighth to score Stoneback and Hernandez. Kenny Stonebacksingled in two runs in the third for his two RBI and Gerard Hall (Washington, DC.) singled in a run in the fourth. Gerard Hall's hittingstreak is now at 17 games, while Jake McAloose is hitting .408.
UNCW was led by Robbie Monday who hit his 12th homerun of the season in the fifth and singled home a run in the third. Mike Rooney slammedhis second homer of the season with Alex Hill aboardin the seventh. Cody Stanley and Alex Hill knocked in a run each as well.
Brett Harris, Cameron Scott (Culpeper, VA.), Kenny Stoneback and Edgar Hernandez each had two hits for ODU on the day. Grayson Evans, Cody Stanley,Matt Holt, Robbie Monday and Alex Hill each had two hits for the Seahawks.
ODU freshman Ben Tomchick (Virginia Beach, Va. ) picked up his fifth win of the season with 6.1innings of work. Junior Chris Boggs (Manassas, VA.) pitched the final 2.1 innings in relief for the save.
ODU ends the regular season winning 12 of their last 18 games.
