ODU Beats Hofstra, 11-2 To Sweep CAA Series

NORFOLK, VA--Old Dominion (15-20/8-7) pounded out 16 hits led by Gerard Hall (Washington, DC),Jake McAloose(Virginia Beach, Va.) and the pitching of Ben Tomchick (Virginia Beach, Va. )to defeated Hofstra, 11-2 Sunday afternoon and sweep the CAA series. The Monarchs have won five of their last six games.

Freshman righthander Ben Tomchick pitched seven-plus innings allowing only two runs, walking one and fanning six to improve his record to 3-3 and lower his ERA to 2.74 which ranks second best in the CAA. Freshman Brandon Smith (Chesapeake, VA.) pitched the last 1.1 innings in relief.

As in the previous two games, Hofstra took the lead, and ODU came back. Hofstra's Mark Stuckless led the game off with a solo Homer. ODU rallied with two runs in the bottom of the first as Max Most (Port Washington, NY. )scored on a passed ball and Brett Harris (Chesapeake, VA. )singled home Gerard Hall to give ODU a 2-1 lead.

ODU broke the game open in the fourth with five runs. Cameron Scott's (Culpeper, VA.) sacrifice fly plated Harris, and Jake McAloose singled home two runs, Gerard Hall singled home Josh Wright (Bridgewater, VA. ) and Chris Buss(Rosemount, MN.) came home on a Hofstra error.

Hall led ODU with four hits on the day, he also scored three times and knocked in two runs. JakeMcAloose had two hits with three RBI, while Cameron Scott had three hits and an RBI. Brett Harris,Josh Wright and Chris Buss each had two hits today as well.

For the week, Brett Harris hit .524 with seven RBI, while Jake McAloose hit .450with eight RBI and .800 slugging percentage.

Stuckless led Hofstra with three hits, while John Kenny, Matt Prokopowicz and scott A'Hara each hadtwo hits for the Pride. Jim Best knocked in Hofstra's other run with a solo shot in the fifth.

ODU returns to action on Tuesday when they host VMI at 6 p.m.
