Swimming Hosts College Of Charleston Saturday

NORFOLK, Va. -- The Monarch and Lady Monarch swimmers return to the pool for the to take on the College of Charleston beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday utilizing Norfolk State's pool facilities as the Old Dominion pool remains closed with construction continuing on the new recreational facility on campus.

The Old Dominion's men's squad enters Saturday's competition looking to start a new streak. The Monarchs suffered their first loss of the year and saw their 15-meet win streak come to an end last week with a 141-160 loss to UNC-Wilmington, the seven-time defending Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) champions.

Against the Seahawks, the Monarchs came out on top in seven events led by freshman Arni Mar Arnason (Msfellsbaer, Iceland) with a pair of victories (50, 100 free) andjunior Kristian Ramkvist (Bjarred, Sweden) placed his name ninth in the records books with his performance in the 200 200 breast (2:07.42).

The College of Charleston's men's squad currently holds a 4-4 mark and have won its last two meets - wins over Florida A&M and Limestone.

The Old Dominion women's swimming and diving team, meanwhile, emerged victories with a 151-45 win over UNC-Wilmington to improve to 4-6 overall. Sophomore Agata Nowak (Gorzow, Poland) broke the school record in the 100 fly (56.55), while senior Liza Moiseeva (Moscow, Russia), sophomore April Barrientos (Va. Beach, Va.), and freshman Erla Haraldsdottir (Njardvik, Iceland) each helped the Lady Monarchs to victory with a pair of top finishes.

The College of Charleston's women's team enters Saturday's competition sporting a 4-8 record. The Cougars have won their last three meets with victories over Flordia A&M, Limestone, and Radford.
