PACK THE HOUSE:
"PACK THE HOUSE" is a NCAA initiative to challenge fellow conference members in a contest to top their highest attendance from the previous season. Last year, 4825 people watched Old Dominion top William & Mary in the annual "HOOPS FOR A CURE" in the largest attended game of the regular season.
LADY MONARCH MOMENTS:
The No. 25/24 Old Dominion Lady Monarchs kick off the home portion of its 2008-09 schedule against Virginia. The game features a rematch of the two squads from the thrilling Second Round NCAA Tournament overtime game.
Jazzmin Walters hit a three-points with 4.8 seconds remaining and Tiffany Green came down the other end to block a potential game-winning shot by Lyndra Littles to send Old Dominion to the "Sweet 16" for the first time since 2002.
Virginia will be the second ranked team the Lady Monarchs will face this season following a 78-44 setback to #14/13 Texas on Monday night. Other upcoming ranked opponents include #5/13 Tennessee and #11/16 Maryland, as well as Michigan State, who is receiving votes.
Old Dominion is currently riding a 26-game home win streak, tied for the second longest in the nation.
Prior to the game with the Cavaliers, the Lady Monarchs will receive their 2008 Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) championship rings. Old Dominion has won an NCAA A record 17 straight CAA titles.
Following tonight's game, the Lady Monarchs will travel to Michigan State and then return home for the month of December for a four-game homestand.

ABOUT VIRGINIA:
The Virginia Cavaliers return to the Ted Constant Convocation Center for a rematch of the thrilling 2008 Second Round NCAA Tournament Game. The Cavaliers are off to a 2-0 start with a 78-48 season opening victory over High Point and an 83-82 upset over Tennessee in Knoxville. Against the Lady Vols, Virginia's Britnee Millner converted a free throw with 6.4 seconds left to give the Cavaliers the win. Although Virginia returns nine letterwinners and four starters from last year's team that finished 24-10 overall, the Cavaliers will be without the services of junior guard Paulisha Kellum and senior forward Lyndra Littles. Kellum suffered an ACL tear during a practice, while Little will sit out the fall semester for academic reasons. The Cavaliers do return junior guard Monica Wright and senior center Aisha Mohammed. Wright leads Virginia with 25.5 points per game, while Mohammed is pouring in 15.0 points and a team-leading 10.5 rebounds per game.
SERIES WITH VIRGINIA:
Old Dominion and Virginia will meet for the 32nd time on Friday night. The Lady Monarchs leads the all-time series with the Cavaliers, 17-14. In their most recent meeting, fifth-seeded Old Dominion upset fourth-seeded Virginia in overtime, 88-85, in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The NCAA Tournament victory snapped a five-game Cavalier win streak against the Lady Monarchs. However, the Cavaliers have won the last four meetings. Each team served as the squad's opener for their respective buildings - ODU's Ted Constant Convocation in 2002 and Virginia's John Paul Jones arena in 2006.
LAST TIME VS. VIRGINIA:
The littlest player made the biggest shot for Old Dominion. Then one of the tallest made sure it would be enough to win a thrilling game. Jazzmin Walters made a 3-pointer with 4.8 seconds left in overtime Tuesday night, and Tiffany Green blocked an attempt at a tying 3-pointer just before the buzzer, giving the Lady Monarchs an 88-85 victory over Virginia and a trip to the Greensboro Regional back on March 25th.Fifth-seeded Old Dominion (31-4) fell behind 85-81 in overtime, but closed the game on a 7-0 run. Walters started it with a free throw, Jessica Canady added a three-point play with 1:25 to go, and the 5-foot-2 Walters made a shot from her hip just before the shot-clock buzzer to send the Lady Monarchs' crowd into a frenzy.It got even louder when the 6-2 Green met Lyndra Littles at the top of the key and blocked her shot. Littles, who scored 29 points, collected the rejection and tried again, but her second effort came up well short and the wild contest was finished. Fourth-seeded Virginia (24-10), which trailed almost all night, forced overtime when Aisha Mohammed was fouled with 1.8 seconds to go--on the Cavaliers' sixth shot from in close on the possession--and she swished the free throw to extend the gave 5 more minutes. Walters led Old Dominion with 17 points and 10 assists and committed just one turnover. T.J. Jordan added 14 points, Shahida Williams and Green had 13 each. Green also had 12 rebounds and six blocks. Canady added 12 points and 10 rebounds. Littles grabbed 14 rebounds, and Mohammed finished with 17 points and 15 rebounds. Sharnee Zoll scored 13 with nine assists in her final collegiate game, and Virginia's best scorer, Monica Wright, had 11 on 5-for-17 shooting before she fouled out with 5:23 left. Littles shot 10-for-29 for Virginia and scored five points in overtime, but Virginia didn't score after her layup put them ahead by four with 2:14 to play.
HOME OPENERS:
In home openers, the Lady Monarchs are 28-11 including a 3-3 mark at the Ted Constant Convocation Center. Old Dominion defeated Middle Tennessee on Nov. 10 to open up the home slate with a 76-68 victory last season.

CAA PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Senior forward/center Tiffany Green was named a Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Co-Player of the Week for the week ending November 16th. A Preseason First Team All-CAA selection, she helped Old Dominion kick off the 2008-09 season with a pair of wins over St. Mary's and Dayton at the World Vision Classic by averaging 17.0 points and 11.0 rebounds per game. Green led all scorers with 19 points as six different Lady Monarchs scored in ODU's 93-63 season opening victory over St. Mary's. She followed by posting her 19th career double-double in the Lady Monarchs' 70-58 win over Dayton. The 6-2 Chesapeake, Virginia native collected 15 points along with a career-high 16 rebounds.On the week Green, shot 50 percent from the field and last year's CAA leader in shot blocks totaled six rejections.
