Five-Run Rally In Sixth Lifts Monarchs Over Georgia State, 7-4

NORFOLK, VA--Old Dominion (23-21/13-10) rallied for five runs in the sixth inningto defeat Georgia State (29-21/9-15), 7-4 in a Colonial Athletic Association contestFriday night. Junior righthander Dan Hudson (Virginia Beach, VA.) scattered ten hits and fanned nine for the complete game win. It was the Monarchs fifth straight victory.

Hudson and the Panthers Robinson Polanco were in a 2-2 duel for five innings. Georgia State scored two runs in the top of the sixth on an RBI double by Matt Van Horn and groundout RBI by Theo Asher, for a 4-2 lead.

In the bottom of the inning, Anthony Shawler (Chesapeake, VA.) started the rally off with a leadoff single. He would later score on a hit by Gerard Hall (Washington, DC.). Edgar Hernandez ( Luguillo, PR.) singled to score Jake McAloose (Virginia Beach, VA.) and tie the game at 4-4. Max Most (Port Washington, NY.) then tripled to right-center to score both Hernandez and Hall to give ODU its first lead at 6-4. Chris Keenan (Chesapeake, VA.) then singled home Most for the 7-4 score.

Sophomore shortstop Gerard Hall and senior centerfielder Jimmy Miles (Orlando, FL.) led the Monarchs with three hits each. Chris Keenan and Max Most both knocked in two runs. Hall is now hitting .348 while Miles is at .380.

Dan Hudson, the CAA strikeout leader now has 95 in 77 innings and lowered his ERAto 4.56.

Georgia State was led by designated hitter Derek Simmons with three hits and two runsbatted in. Simmons hit a solo homer off Hudson in the fourth inning. Chase Childers andBradley Logan each had two hits for the Panthers. GSU's starter Robinson Palanco (7-4) fanned the first four and five of the first six Monarchs he faced.
