NORFOLK, VA--Bradley Logan's two-run single in the seventh inning capped offa four-run rally as Georgia State (30-21/10-15) defeated Old Dominion (23-22/13-11),6-4 Saturday afternoon in a Colonial Athletic Association contest. Logan also picked upthe save in relief. The loss ended ODU's five-game winning streak.
Georgia State took a 2-0 lead in the fourth when Marc Mimeault slammed a two-run homer with Derek Simmons aboard.
ODU rallied with four runs in the bottom of the inning. Jimmy Miles and Chris Keenanwalked, then both advanced on a balk. Miles then came home on Bryan Cipolla's ground out. Keenan steals third and comes home on the throwing error by the catcher. AnthonyShawler walked, and scored on Jake McAloose's second homerun of the season.
In the seventh, the Panthers got successive hits from Mimeault, Dusty Bennett, and Jonathan Kolowich, to load the bases. With two outs Chase Childers walked to plate Mimeault, then Logan singled in Bennett and Kolowich for a 5-4 Panther lead. Derek Simmons singled home Childers to make it 6-4.
Will Palmer picked up the win for the Panthers as he held the Monarchs to five hits onthe day. Logan came on in the ninth for Palmer with the bases loaded, two outs, andstruckout the Monarch batter.
Jake McAloose led ODU with two hits and two runs batted in. Anthony Shawler pitched6.2 innings with eight strikeouts, four walks and six runs. Simmons, Mimeault and Bennett led GSU with two hits each.
The third and final game of the series is Sunday at 1 p.m. ODU's six seniors, Ryan Bergh, DavidBurns, Chris Keenan, David Wagner, Bryan Cipolla and Jimmy Miles will be honoredPrior to the game.
