Burns Homers, But VCU Defeats Monarchs, 8-2

NORFOLK, VA--Cody Eppley pitched a complete game six hitter to leadthe Rams of Virginia Commonwealth (6-19/1-8) to an 8-2 victory over OldDominion (15-14/7-6) Friday night.

Eppley evened his record at 3-3 and recorded his second complete game of theseason. He walked only one ODU batter and fanned four. ODU's Dan Hudson(3-3) fanned ten with ten hits and two walks in seven innings of work.

ODU senior designated hitter David Burns accounted for both Monarch runs.He singled home Max Most in the first inning and slammed a solo homer inthe fourth. Burns' now has a team best six home runs for the year. He also hadthree of ODU's six hits on the night.

VCU took the lead for good in the fifth when R.J. Schenk doubled with two outs and Kwan Evans followed with his fifth homerun of the season. Justin Wright thensingled to score Chris Jackson to make it 4-2.

Chris Jackson led the Rams with four hits on the night, while Schenk, Evansand Eric Curtis had two hits each. Evans, Justin Wright and Joe Van Metereach knocked in two runs for VCU.

The two teams play Saturday at 4 p.m.
