NORFOLK, Va. -- The No. 10 Old Dominion field hockey team will travel to No. 2 Maryland on Friday, October 12th and return home to host No. 11/13 Duke on Sunday, October 14th to wrap up home-and-home series with the Terps and Blue Devils. Maryland, the two-time defending national champions, handed ODU a 4-1 loss back on August 31st, while ODU's current win streak began with a 1-0 victory in Durham back on September 16th.

The Lady Monarchs are currently 8-5 overall and are in the midst of a seven game-win streak that has included five consecutive shutouts. Old Dominion is tied along with No. 8/9 James Madison for first place in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) with both teams holding 5-0 league marks.

Old Dominion is led by two-time CAA Player of the Week Titia Beek (Heiloo, Holland) with 16 points from four goals and eight assists. Beek is followed by sophomore Kathleen Shea (Elizaville, N.Y.) on the stat sheet. Shea has poured in six goals, with two of them game-winners, along with an assist for 13 points. Third in scoring in the Lady Monarch squad is sophomore Katie Ueberroth (Stevens, Pa.) with five goals, two assists, and 12 points. Ueberroth has two-game winners under her belt as well. In goal is junior Kelly Driscoll (West Chester, Pa.), who has a 1.52 goal against average, a .796 save percentage, and six shutouts under her belt this season.

In league stats, Beek continues to lead the CAA in assists per game (0.62) and is fourth among her league counterparts in points per game (1.23). Both Shea and CAA Rookie of the Week Loran Hatch (Green Lane, Pa.) are tied for ninth averaging 1.00 points per outing. Hatch is also fifth in goals per game (0.50), while Shea is tied for seventh (0.46). Senior Jo Ann van Aswegen (Bloemfontien, South Africa) is tied for eight in assists per game (0.31). Netminder Driscoll leads the CAA in saves per game (5.69) and is fourth in goal against average (1.52).

Nationally, Beek ranks 14th in assists per game.

Maryland enters Friday's contest sporting a 14-0 record and 4-0 mark in the ACC. The Terps have not dropped a game since 1-0 loss to Wake Forest in the championship game of the ACC Touranment last fall. Since then Maryland has put together a string of 18 straight victories and are winners in 25 of their last 26 contests dating back to last year.

Freshman forward Katie O'Donnell, a member of the U.S. National Team, leads Maryland with 14 goals, including five game-winners, 14 assists, and 42 points. Sophomore forward Nicole Muracco is second on the squad in scoring iwth 12 goals, an assist, and 25 points. Junior midfielder Susie Rowe and senior midfielder Janneke van Leeuwen both check in with 21 points thus far. Rowe has collected 10 goals and an assist, while van Leeuwen has registered seven goals and seven assists. In goal, senior Kathryn Masson has started all 14 games and holds a 0.57 goals against average and .900 save percentage.

Following the match against the Terps, the U.S. National Team featuring former Lady Monarchs Tiffany Snow, Melissa Leonetti, Angie Loy, Dana Sensenig, and Caroline Nichols will take the field against Japan at 7:00 p.m.

Duke enters the weekend with a 7-6 overall mark and 1-3 record in the ACC. The Blue Devils will take on Longwood in a neutral site contest Saturday, October 13th at Foreman Field before meeting up with the Lady Monarchs. Duke just had their two-game win streak come to a halt with a 4-2 loss to the Terps.

The Blue Devils are led by junior midfielder Marian Dickinson with six goals, six assists, and 18 points. Sophomore forward Amie Survilla is Duke's second leading scorer with five goals and 10 points. In goal, senior Caitlin Williams is posting a .767 save percentage and 1.83 goals against average.

Following this weekend, only two more weeks are left in the regular season. Next weekend it will be a battle for first place in the CAA as the Lady Monarchs travel to James Madison on Saturday, October 20th. Old Dominion will also be on the road as they take on Virginia Commonwealth on Sunday, October 21st.
