NORFOLK, VA--Rising senior David Burns and rising sophomore Gerard Hall pacedThe 12 Monarchs with All-Star accolades from the Valley League. A total of 12 Monarchs competed this summer in the Valley, Cape Cod, Coastal Plains, Cal Ripken,Sr., and Clark Griffith baseball leagues.
David Burns hit .266 with four homers, nine doubles and 28 RBI for Staunton, whileShortstop Gerard Hall hit .275 with 19 RBI, 23 runs scored and 14 of 18 stolen basesFor Luray in the Valley League.
Righthander Dan Hudson was 3-4 with a 3.33 ERA for Harwich in the Cape CodLeague. He fanned 55 in 47 innings of work.
The Peninsula Pilots (32-23) of the Coastal Plains League, who reached the finals had four Monarchs on their squad. Bryan Cipolla led the team with 25 bases on balls. He hit.256 with eight doubles and 25 RBI. He started 46 of 50 games.
Anthony Shawler was 3-2 with a 2.57 ERA. He fanned 52 in 42 innings. At the plate,He hit .242 with three homers, 14 RBI and four doubles. Shawler ranked second on theTeam with 20 walks.
Righthander Dexter Carter was 1-4, but compiled a 2.42 ERA. Carter canned 72In only 49 innings of work. Thirdbaseman Jake McAloose hit .189 with six doubles,Two homers and 18 RBI.
John Malbon hit .270 with three homers and 15 RBI and 21 starts for Bethesda of theClark Griffth League.
Catcher Joe Velleggia was third on Youse-Maryland of the Cal Ripken Sr. LeagueIn hitting at .263. He had one homer with 24 RBI and tied for the team lead withSeven doubles. He played 36 games with 34 starts. Youse won the league title with a 26-14 record.
Senior secondbaseman Chris Keenan hit .260 with ten RBI for Florence in the CoastalPlains League. He played 23 games before an injury.
Righthander Matt Walls was 2-0 with a 4.15 ERA. He made 18 appearances with oneStart and fanned 16 in 26 innings of work. Lefthander David Wagner was 2-1 withTwo saves in 14 appearances for Wilmington in the Coastal Plains League. He compiledA 2.25 ERA in 20 innings.
Cameron Scott hit .222 in eight games before an injury, while lefthander Corey Tothwas 2-3 for New Market in the Valley League. He fanned 20 in 27 innings.
