NORFOLK, VA--Old Dominion University sophomore righthanderAnthony Shawler (Chesapeake, Va.-Oscar Smith HS) has been named second team All-American by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA). Shawler along withSophomore righthander Dan Hudson (Virginia Beach, VA.-Princess Anne HS.) and senior outfielder Mike Zahm (Omaha, NE.) were named All-State by the Virginia Sports Information Director's Association (VaSID).
Shawler is the first Monarch baseball player to earn atleast four All-American honors since Tim Hummel (named 1st team on all five teams ) in 2000. Earlier this month Shawler was selected first team All-American by COLLEGIATE BASEBALL NEWS, third team by BASEBALL AMERICA, and second team by PINGBASEBALL. Shawler compiled an 11-2 record with a 2.20 earned run average along with 130 strikeouts, three shutouts and eight complete games to lead the Colonial Athletic Association. Earlier in the season, he tossed a one-hit shutout over NCAA participant Rutgers.
Dan Hudson, a second team All-State pick ranked second to Shawler in the CAA with 109 strikeouts in 106.2 innings. He compiled an 8-5 record with a 3.46 earned run average. Mike Zahm earned second team All-State honors as he hit .371 with seven homers, 61 runs batted in, 23 doubles and seven homers.
