MARK YOUR CALENDARS: The Lady Monarchs return home on Sunday to take on George Mason in their annual scholarship game. The five dollar admission (admission is free for all ODU students with ID) will go towards benefitting the Intercollegiate Foundation for Women's Lacrosse Scholarships. Additionally, the Hampton Roads Chapter of US Lacrosse will host a clinic following the game with the Patriots.
ABOUT OLD DOMINION: The season is quickly coming to a close as the Old Dominion women's lacrosse team has just two regular season games left on its schedule. The Lady Monarchs are coming off a 14-7 loss to #9 (IWLCA)/7 (Inside Lacrosse) James Madison and enter Sunday's game with a 5-7 overall mark and 2-3 Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) record. A win by the Lady Monarchs pushes them one step closes to returning to the CAA Championships for the first time since 2003. Old Dominion continues to be led by senior midfielder Caroline Jacobs with 25 goals and nine assists. She also leads the team in groundballs (36) and caused turnovers (23). Fellow senior and midfielder Katie Veneziale checks in as Old Dominion's second leading scorer with 17 points and a team-leading 13 assists. She leads the squad in draw controls (30) as well. Netminder Sara Larson is holding a 10.27 goals against average and .487 save percentage.
SERIES VS. GEORGE MASON: Old Dominion is 11-7 all-time versus the Patriots.
ABOUT GEORGE MASON: The Patriots come to Foreman Field with a 5-8 overall record and 0-4 mark in CAA action. George Mason has dropped their last five games including a 12-6 setback to Virginia in their last outing. The Patriots are led by junior attacker Laura King with 31 goals and eight assists. Freshman midfielder Kelly Davis is the second leading scorer with 29 goals and five points. In between the pipes, freshman Sara Longobucco is posting a 10.43 goals against average and .447 save percentage.
LAST TIME VS. GEORGE MASON: The Old Dominion women's lacrosse team suffered a 23-11 loss at George Mason back on April 9th of last season.Mason jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first period and never trailed in the game. The Patriots were up 12-5 at the half, and outscored the Monarchs in the second period 11-6 for the final tally. Leading the way for the Lady Monarchs were Caroline Jacobs and Kelly Kimener with three goals. Jacobs also registered three assists to finish with a total of six points. Mason had 12 different Patriots find the back of the Lady Monarch net led by Laura King with six. Robyn Yeatman also handed out four assists. In net, former Lady Monarch Michelle Gannon and Sara Larson (Sylvan Lake, Mich.) combined for nine saves while Roxie Alsruhe and Bonnie Nelson teammed for five stops. Kimener registered a team-high five draw controls, while Jacobs caused three trunovers and led the team with five groundballs. Mason's Meredith Komer also posted five draws, while netminder Alsruhe scooped up a team-high three groundballs.
NATIONALLY SPEAKING: Senior Caroline Jacobs is currently ranked 14th nationally in caused turnovers per game (2.09) and 24th in groundballs per game (3.0). Jacobs is not the only Lady Monarch to featured in the NCAA stats. Classmate Katie Veneziale is currently 24tj nationally in draw controls averaging 2.73 per outing. Additionally, Sara Larson, coming off a 16 save performance at Towson last week, moved up to 17th nationally in save percentage (.509) and 22nd in goals against average (9.9).
LOOKING AROUND THE CAA: Several Lady Monarchs are ranked among their Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) peers. Senior midfielder Caroline Jacobs is 10th in points per game (2.91), fouth in groundballs per game (3.00) and third in caused turnovers (2.09). Katie Veneziale is second in draw controls per game (2.73) and eighth in assists per game (1.04). Freshman Ashley Kellogg is tied for fouth with two game-winning goals under her belt. Netminder junior Sara Larson third in goals against average (9.90) and fourth in save percentage (.509).

THE CENTURY MARK: Senior midfielder Caroline Jacobs with her lone goal against Delaware last Sunday scored her 100th career goal. She is one of 35 active Division I women's student-athletes to achieve the mark. Additionally , her performance last weekend push her career point total mark to 151. She is one of 23 active Division I women's student-athletes to tally 150 or more career points.
NO LOSS IS A GOOD LOSS... No loss is certainly a good loss, but if you look at the Lady Monarch losses, six of seven have come at the hands of ranked teams, three of the seven have come at the hands of the nation's top ten and two have been in overtime.
RANK 'EM UP: Thursday's match-up with #9/7 James Madison on Thursday afternoon marked the sixth ranked opponent the Lady Monarchs have taken on. Old Dominion previously met up with No. 1 North Carolina, No. 18/20 Rutgers, No. 20/18 Richmond, No. 5/5 Virginia, and No. 9/7 James Madison. Old Dominion took on Rutgers, Richmond, and Virginia marking a string of three consecutive games against ranked opponents and more recently just faced the ranked CAA foes Delaware and James Madison back-to-back.
HERE WE GO, SO WHAT'S THE SCENARIO? The Lady Monarch women's lacrosse team is aiming to go back to the CAA Tournament in 2007. So how do the Lady Monarchs get there? Old Dominion must finish in the top four and there are still quite a few scenarios to be played out. The Lady Monarchs are currently tied with Towson and Drexel in a three-way tie for fourth place each with a 2-3 conference record. If Old Dominion wins both remaining games (George Mason, William & Mary), the Lady Monarchs are in no matter what since they own the tie-break over both Towson and Drexel. If Old Dominion loses both games, either Towson or Drexel will be a berth into the post-season. Should Old Dominion spilt their next two games, the Lady Monarchs will need Towson and Drexel to spilt their remaining two games to return to post-season action.
UP NEXT: The Lady Monarchs have their final regular season home game on Wednesday, April 25th at 4:00 p.m. against the Tribe of William & Mary. The six Old Dominion seniors - Jackie Brown, Caroline Jacobs, Danielle Hailey, Ashley Stanwick, Kristen Truax, and Katie Veneziale - will be honored right before the opening draw.
