ABOUT OLD DOMINION: The Old Dominion women's lacrosse hits the road one last final time in the regular season traveling to #9 (IWLCA)/7 (Inside Lacrosse) James Madison. The last three Lady Monarchs contests have been decided by just one goal, with two of those match-ups coming in overtime. Old Dominion will enter Thursday's contest with a 5-6 overall mark and 2-2 Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) record. The Lady Monarchs are led by senior midfielder Caroline Jacobs with 24 goals, eight assists, and 32 points. The fourth-year Lady Monarch also leads the squad with 33 groundballs and 23 caused turnovers. Fellow senior and midfielder Katie Veneziale is second on the stat sheet with 16 goals, a team-leading 12 assists, and 35 points. Veneziale also leads the team in draws with 30. In net,the Lady Monarchs' Sara Larson is posting a .509 save percentage and a 9.90 goals against average.
SERIES VS. JAMES MADISON: Old Dominion is 7-29 all-time versus the Dukes.
ABOUT JAMES MADISON: The Dukes enter Thursday's match-up with a 10-2 overall and 3-0 CAA mark and are winning of their last four games. James Madison's losses have come at the hands of #5 Notre Dame in sudden victory overtime and a three-goal loss against #4 Virginia. The Dukes are led by senior midfielder Kelly Berger with 29 goals, 19 assists, and 48 points. Junior attacker Annie Wagner is second on the team in scoring with 42 goals, three assists, and 45 points. Wagner is fifth nationally in goals per game. In between the piple, junior Kelly Wetzel is holding a 10.14 goals against average and .520 save percentage.
LAST TIME VS. JAMES MADISON: the Old Dominion women's lacrosse team fell to #18 James Madison, 14-8, last April 7th at Foreman Field. James Madison had a trio record the hat trick as Kelly Berger, Maria Bosica, and Brooke McKenzie all tallied three goals apiece. Berger finished the afternoon with six points as she also added in three assists. Old Dominion was led by Ashley Stanwick with three as well. The game started with James Madison taking a four goals lead. Lynlea Cronin collected the opening draw and raced down field for the Dukes goal 11 seconds into the game followed by back-to-back nets by JMU leading scorer, Berger. McKenzie added in the first goal of her two goals of the afternoon with 22:24 left in the first half to five James Madison the 4-0. Old Dominion responded by finding the back of the James Madison net twice within a 17 seconds span. Katie Veneziale got the Lady Monarchs onto the scoreboard first, off an assist from fellow classmate Caroline Jacobs and then senior Melody Shotwell found classmate Tameka Davis at point-blank range in front of the JMU net to cut ODU's deficit down to 4-2 with 21:32 left in the half. James Madison scored two more times, with goals by Birgid Strain and a free position tally by Julie Stone, and extended its lead to 6-2 with 17:32 to go in the first half. The Lady Monarchs responded again with another two goals. Stanwick collect her first goal of the afternoon followed by an eight-meter goal by Shotwell, as the Lady Monarchs trailed 6-4 with a little over five minute remaining. The last minutes of the first half saw both teams trade goals. Boscia from Berger scored for James Madison, while Stanwick's second goal of the day, this time coming from a free position attempt on net, put the score at 7-5 in favor of James Madison heading into the intermission. Although the Lady Monarchs struck first in the half to pull within one goal of their opponent, the Dukes rattled off four straight goals to pull ahead. A free-position goals by Stanwick cut ODU's deficit to 7-6 just two minutes and 16 seconds into the half, but Julie Stone captured a free position net of her own a minute later to start the JMU's scoring spurt. During the Duke rally, McKenzie, Kim Griffin, and Boscia, also managed to find the back of the Lady Monarch net. Another free position attempt by the Lady Monarchs stopped the Dukes' scoring rally. Old Dominion leading scorer Jacobs registered her lone goal as the Lady Monarchs trailed 11-7 with 16:21 left in the game. After an eight-meter goal registered by Bosica, Old Dominion registered its final goal of the afternoon on an unassisted score by Jessica Noone. Meanwhile, James Madison closed out the game with two more goals, McKenzie's third of the day and Berger's third of the afternoon coming with 57 seconds left in the contest. In net, former Lady Monarch Michelle Gannon and Sara Larson (Sylvan Lake, Mich.) combined for 10 stops. The Dukes' Livvy King posted seven saves in the win. Old Dominion won the battle of the draw controls, 14-10, with Lindsey Belle recording four. James Madison was led by Julie Stone with four. Defensively, both teams were almost evenly matched in the groundball department with James Madison holding the slight edge, 24-23. The Lady Monarchs were led by Belle with five, while the Duke's netminder King registered six.
NATIONALLY SPEAKING: Senior Caroline Jacobs is currently ranked 14th nationally in caused turnovers per game (2.09) and 24th in groundballs per game (3.0). Jacobs is not the only Lady Monarch to featured in the NCAA stats. Classmate Katie Veneziale is currently 24tj nationally in draw controls averaging 2.73 per outing. Additionally, Sara Larson, coming off a 16 save performance at Towson last week, moved up to 17th nationally in save percentage (.509) and 22nd in goals against average (9.9).
LOOKING AROUND THE CAA: Several Lady Monarchs are ranked among their Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) peers. Senior midfielder Caroline Jacobs is 10th in points per game (2.91), fouth in groundballs per game (3.00) and third in caused turnovers (2.09). Katie Veneziale is second in draw controls per game (2.73) and eighth in assists per game (1.04). Freshman Ashley Kellogg is tied for fouth with two game-winning goals under her belt. Netminder junior Sara Larson third in goals against average (9.90) and fourth in save percentage (.509).

MARK YOUR CALENDARS: When the Lady Monarchs return home on Sunday, they will take on George Mason in their annual scholarship game. The five dollar admission (admission is free for all ODU students with ID) will go towards benefitting the Intercollegiate Foundation for Women's Lacrosse Scholarships. Additionally, the Hampton Roads Chapter of US Lacrosse will host a clinic following the game with the Patriots.
THE CENTURY MARK: Senior midfielder Caroline Jacobs with her lone goal against Delaware last Sunday scored her 100th career goal. She is one of 35 active Division I women's student-athletes to achieve the mark. Additionally , her performance last weekend push her career point total mark to 151. She is one of 23 active Division I women's student-athletes to tally 150 or more career points.
RANK 'EM UP: Last sunday's contest against #19/20 Delaware marked the fifth ranked opponent the Lady Monarchs have faced this season and there's still more to come with Thursday's match-up with #9/7 James Madison. Old Dominion previously met up with No. 1 North Carolina, No. 18/20 Rutgers, No. 20/18 Richmond, and No. 5/5 Virginia. Old Dominion took on Rutgers, Richmond, and Virginia marking a string of three consecutive games against ranked opponents.
THE ROOKIE: Freshman Ashley Kellogg was the lone member of the freshman class that head coach Sue Stahl placed in the season opening starting line-up. In her first appearance in a Lady Monarch uniform Kellogg was one of five goals scorers capturing the game-winner at the 9:32 mark of the first half in a 14-6 win over American. Kellogg currently leads the Lady Monarchs with game-winning goals having put in her second career game-winner against Temple. Last Friday at Towson, Kellogg collected her first hat trick with three goals to lead all scorers in a 9-8 thriller.
