Zahm and Hudson Lead ODU Over UNCW, 12-5

NORFOLK, VA--Senior outfielder Mike Zahm (Omaha, NE.) knocked insix runs and sophomore pitcher Dan Hudson (Virginia Beach, VA.) gave up just twohits in eight innings of work as Old Dominion (17-11/5-2) defeated UNC Wilmington(12-13/4-3), 12-5 Friday evening at the Bud Metheny Baseball Complex.

Zahm had two doubles and a home run on the evening. He double home Chris Keenan (Chesapeake, VA.), Gerard Hall (Washington, DC.) and Nick Erdman (Leola,PA) with two outs in the fourth. He slammed a three run homer with two outs in the sixth with Keenan, Hall and Jake McAloose (Virginia Beach, VA.) aboard and also doubled in the first inning.

The Monarchs slammed three homeruns on the evening. Anthony Shawler (Chesapeake, VA.), the CAA Player of the Week scored ODU's first run of the night with a solo shot to right center in the second inning. After Cameron Scott doubled, Nick Erdman slammed a two-run homer to left to give ODU a 3-0 lead. The Monarchs had 14 hits as Erdman joined Zahm with three hits on the evening.

Hudson picked up his fourth win of the year as he fanned eight, giving up tworuns in eight innings of work to lower his ERA to 3.10.

UNCW was led by Rhett Miller with two hits and two runs batted in. MattHolt also had two hits and one RBI on the evening for the defending CAA ChampionSeahawks. The two teams play again on Saturday beginning at 5 p.m.
