ABOUT OLD DOMINION: The Old Dominion women's lacrosse team enters this weekend with a 2-1 overall record. The Lady Monarchs are coming off a loss to the top-ranked North Carolina Tar Heels after opening the season with two straight victories - American & UMBC. Old Dominion is led by senior Katie Veneziale, who has led the Lady Monarchs in scoring the last two game. Veneziale has recorded nine goals and two assists along with a team-leading 12 draw controls. Second on the stat sheet is fellow classmate Caroline Jacobs. Jacobs has registered seven goals and two assists and leads ODU with 15 groundball and six caused turnovers.
SERIES VS. TEMPLE: Old Dominion is 6-11 all-time versus the Owls.
ABOUT TEMPLE: The Owls enter the weekend with a 2-4 overall mark and are coming off a 17-5 loss at the hands of #14 Penn State which snapped a two-game win streak. Temple is led by Allison Frengs with 13 goals and two assists. Nicole Caniglia is second on the scoring list with eight goals. In net, the Owls are led by Bridget McMullan with a .422 save percentage and a 11.95 goals against average.
LAST TIME VS. TEMPLE: Old Dominion Women's Lacrosse fell to the Owls of Temple University back on March 25th of last year by a close 6-5 score. Kelly Kimener (Oakton, VA) netted two goals for ODU in and picked up an assist off a goal by Ashley Stanwick. The Owls jumped to an early 3-1 lead heading into half time, but the second half saw Melody Shotwell come out and score an unassisted goal in the first two minutes narrowing the score 3-2. Temple then grabbed another goal, before Kimener put one away to keep the score close 4-3 Temple. With 10 minutes to play, the Owls knock in back-to-back goals pulling away 6-3. In the last four minutes, the Lady Monarch's rallied back and cut Temple's lead to one after Stanwick and Kimener found the net and each picked up a goal.With the score 6-5, and less than two minutes on the clock, the Lady Monarchs grabed possession of the ball off the draw following Kimener's goal and attempted to take the game into overtime. Temple blocked Shotwell's attempt at the game-tying goal and gained possession of the ball as time expired.
SERIES VS. RUTGERS: Old Dominion is 8-4 all-time versus the Scarlet Knights.
ABOUT RUTGERS: The Scarlet Knights enter the weekend ranked 18th in the latest IWLCA Poll and 19th in the Inside Lacrosse Poll with a 5-1 overall mark. Their lone loss of the season was a 19-10 setback to Princeton. Among the five wins are two against ODU's fellow CAA competition. Rutgers defeated Delaware, 15-12, in early March and is coming off a 14-12 victory over Hofstra. Rutgers will take on Georgetown on Saturday before the Lady Monarchs come to town. The Scarlet Knights have a trio leading the team with 15 points. Katie Batiuk has collected 15 goals and assist, followed by Nina Frankoski and Brookie Cantwell with 13 goals and three assists each. Batiuk is also among the team leaders in draw controls and caused turnovers. In net, Rutgers has three options in between the pipes with Sandra Abel getting all six starting nods and a bulk of the time in the net. She is posting a 12.19 goals gaisnt average and a .388 save percentage.
LAST TIME VS. RUTGERS: The ODU Women's Lacrosse team snapped its three-game losing streak back on March 27th with a 12-11 win over Rutgers at Foreman Field. Kelly Kimener grabbed three goals and two assists to lead the team in the win. Kimener opened up the scoring effort with a goal four minutes into the game. The Scarlet Knights then went on a three-goal run to give the lead to the Lady Monarchs 3-1 at the seven-minute mark. Caroline Jacobs, Melody Shotwell, and Kimener all found the net for unassisted goals to give ODU the lead 4-3 at 16:30 in the first half. Rutgers placed three straight shots into the net before former Lady Monarch Sarah Lautenbach and Ashley Stanwick each scored to tie the game at the half 6-6. Coming out of the break, freshman Jessica Noone connected to give the Lady Monarchs a one-point edge over the Scarlet Knights before Katie Veneziale tossed in an unassisted score.Once again the persistent Rutgers team fought back putting three back-to-back points on the board to take the lead 9-8. ODU stepped up to their challenge knocking back three goals by Jacobs, Kimener, and Shotwell. Heading into the last ten minutes of the game, the score stood at 11-9 Old Dominion. The Scarlet Knights did not give up though, scoring two goals to keep it close. One shot came with less than a minute remaining in the game, but one last goal Veneziale sealed the deal, securing the win for the Monarchs 12-11.
RANK 'EM UP: Rutgers will be the second ranked team the Lady Monarchs will face this season. Old Dominion is coming off a loss to top-ranked North Carolina in its other ranked match-up this season.
POW: Old Dominion senior midfielder Caroline Jacobs was named a Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Co-Player of the Week for the week ending March 7th. Jacobs captured five goals and an assist her 2007 debut and also led the way for the Lady Monarchs in groundballs, draw controls, and caused turnovers. The fourth year Lady Monarch scooped up a game-high four groundballs, caused a game-high three turnovers, and tied for the lead in draw registering four. It is Jacobs' second CAA weekly honor also earning the award for the week ending April 24th of her sophomore season in 2005. It was during final week of the regular season that Jacobs poured in nine goals and three assists as the Lady Monarchs dropped two close games to nationally ranked opponents, #20 William & Mary and #9 North Carolina to earn her first CAA Player of the Week distinction.
MOVING ON UP: Senior midfielder Caroline Jacobs' performance of five goals and an assist against American moved her into seventh on the ODU all-time points leaders list and moved into the top 10 on the all-time on the goals leaders list.

THE ROOKIE: Freshman Ashley Kellogg was the lone member of the freshman class that head coach Sue Stahl placed in the season opening starting line-up. In her first appearance in a Lady Monarch uniform Kellogg was one of five goals scorers capturing the game-winner at the 9:32 mark of the first half in last week's 14-6 win over American.
ON THE ROAD AGAIN: The Lady Monarchs continue their five-game road trip when they travel to Temple on Saturday and Rutgers on Monday. The road swing will end on Thursday with a brief hike up I-64 to meet Richmond. Before the trip is over, Old Dominion will have traveled nearly 1,700 miles with trips to Baltimore (UMBC), Chapel Hill (UNC), Piscataway, New Jersey (Rutgers), Philadelphia (Temple) and Richmond (Richmond).
