Dan Hudson Earns Freshmen All-American Honors

NORFOLK, VA--Old Dominion University freshman righthander Dan Hudson (Virginia Beach, Va.) has been selected to the 2006 Louisville Slugger Freshmen All-American team as selected by Collegiate Baseball newspaper.

The 6-3 , 200-pounder who helped lead Princess Anne High School to the Virginia AAA State title a year ago was 7-3 this year with a 3.28 earned run average.He fanned 79 batters in 93.1 innings. He made 14 appearances with 12 starts and onecomplete game.

Hudson tossed a complete game five-hit shutout at Hofstra and earned CAAAll-Rookie team honors. He fanned nine against both VCU and Rutgers. Hudson rankedsixth in the CAA ERA.

Louisville Slugger's Freshmen All-American Baseball TeamTUCSON, Ariz. -- The 2006 Louisville Slugger Freshmen All-American team features a who's who of tremendous baseball talent.The team is headed by Collegiate Baseball newspaper's Freshman Pitcher of The Year Alex Wilson of Winthrop and Freshman Player of The Year 3B Pedro Alvarez of Vanderbilt.

Here is a rundown on the 2006 Louisville Slugger Freshmen All-American team as chosen by Collegiate Baseball.Starting Pitchers

RHP Alex Wilson, Winthrop -- Collegiate Baseball's national Freshman Pitcher of The Year, Wilson was also named Freshman of The Year in the Big South Conference and was a first team Big South pick. He posted a 13-3 record with a 3.78 ERA as he struck out 143 batters with 50 walks in 138 innings.LHP Christian Friedrich, Eastern Kentucky -- Named Freshman of The Year in the Ohio Valley Conference, he posted a 10-2 record with a 1.98 ERA and threw 3 complete games. In 82 innings, he struck out 118 batters and walked only 24.RHP Aaron Shafer, Wichita St. -- The Pitcher of The Year and Freshman of The Year in the Missouri Valley Conference, Shafer recorded a 10-3 record, 2.73 ERA and fanned 74 batters with 19 walks this season in 92 1/3 innings.RHP Cody Satterwhite, Mississippi -- Named to the All-Freshmen Southeastern Conference team, Satterwhite posted an 8-2 record and fanned 30 batters.LHP Matt Wickswat, Santa Clara -- A second team West Coast Conference pick, he posted an 8-2 record with a 3.24 ERA. He struck out 57 batters with 22 walks.LHP Nathan Moreau, Georgia -- Moreau was 6-1 with a 4.28 ERA and fanned 33 batters with 12 walks.RHP Dan Hudson, Old Dominion -- Named to the All-Rookie Colonial Conference team, Hudson posted a 7-3 record with a 3.28 ERA and 79 strikeouts.RHP Erich Lehmann, Stephen F. Austin -- Lehmann posted an 8-3 record, 3.40 ERA and struck out 63 batters with 14 walks. In his final three starts of the season, he threw three complete games.LHP Brian Matusz, San Diego -- Named to the All-Freshmen team in the West Coast Conference, Matusz fanned 93 batters and walked 39 as he posted a 4-3 record and 4.25 ERA in 89 innings.RHP Ethan Hollingsworth, Western Michigan -- Named Freshman of the Year in the Mid-American Conference, Hollingsworth was 9-3 this season with a 3.86 ERA.RHP Miles Morgan, Texas Tech. -- Named Freshman Pitcher of The Year in the Big 12 Conference, Morgan posted a 6-5 record, 3.39 ERA and fanned 96 batters with 27 walks. He also threw three complete games.RHP Scott Gorgen, U.C. Irvine -- Named Freshman Pitcher of The Year in the Big West Conference and a second team Big West pick, he posted a 7-4 record and 2.52 ERA.RHP Steven Hensley, Elon -- Named Freshman of The Year in the Southern Conference, he posted a 6-3 record with 89 strikeouts. He fanned 13 batters in one game this season.RHP Jordan Muir, Brigham Young -- Muir posted a 6-0 record with a 2.88 ERA as he fanned 39 batters.RHP Steve Blevins, Cincinnati -- A second team Big East Conference pick, Blevins was 8-3 on the mound with a 4.95 ERA. He struck out 55 batters and pitched 2 complete games.LHP Travis Smink, Virginia Military Institute -- Smink posted a 7-2 record, 4.75 ERA and struck out 30 batters with 2 saves.RHP Matt Lea, Mississippi St. -- Lea put together a 5-1 record with a 2.01 ERA as he fanned 26 batters.

Relief PitchersKyle Weiland, Notre Dame -- Weiland posted 16 saves for the Fighting Irish this season with a glistening 2.55 ERA. He was a second team Big East selection as he struck out 41 batters and walked 19 in 42 1/3 innings.Ben Hunter, Pepperdine -- An All-Freshmen West Conference selection, Hunter posted a 5-2 record, 7 saves and 2.40 ERA with 41 strikeouts and 14 walks.Matt Daly, Hawaii -- Daly posted a 6-0 record with 1 save and a 1.88 ERA with 40 strikeouts and 18 walks.Austin Wood, Texas -- Wood appeared in 35 games for the Longhorns this season and posted a 3.15 ERA with 37 strikeouts and 19 walks.J.D. Melton, Wofford -- Melton posted 7 saves this season and a 6-3 record as he fanned 28 batters.Luke Greinke, Auburn -- Greinke, an All-Freshman Southeastern Conference pick, appeared in 17 games and posted 6 saves with a 3.76 ERA.

CatchersBilly Aguiar, High Point -- Aguiar, a second team Big South Conference selection, hit .290 with 3 homers, 5 doubles and 29 RBI. He only had four errors all season long.Preston Paramore, Arizona St. -- A first team Pac-10 pick, Paramore was superb defensively as he hit .326 with 7 doubles, 3 homers and knocked in 30 runs.Ryan Babineau, UCLA -- A superb defensive receiver, Babineau was selected to the Pac-10 first team. On offense, he hit .258 with 6 homers, 8 doubles and knocked in 25 runs.Tim Federowicz, North Carolina -- The talented freshman hit .314 with 7 homers, 13 doubles and knocked in 45 runs.

First BasemenAllan Dykstra, Wake Forest -- He was named Freshman of The Year in the Atlantic Coast Conference and a second team All-ACC pick as well. Dykstra hit .331 with 14 homers, 16 doubles and 55 RBI.James Ewing, Arkansas -- Ewing hit .375 for the Razorbacks with 9 doubles, 18 RBI and 2 stolen bases.Jared Bolden, Va. Commonwealth -- An All-Rookie selection in the Colonial Conference, he hit .383 with 5 homers, 11 doubles, 6 triples and 32 RBI. He also swiped 8 bases.Justin Smoak, South Carolina -- Smoak was named to the All-Freshmen team in the Southeastern Conference. He hit 12 homers, 11 doubles and knocked in 37 runs.Michael Ewing, Southern Mississippi -- Named to the All-Freshman team in Conference USA, Ewing hit .326 with 15 doubles, 8 homers and collected 41 RBIs.Calvin Anderson, Southern -- Named Freshman of The Year in the Southwestern Conference, Anderson hit .330 with 4 homers, 8 doubles and knocked in 31 runs.Ryan Flaherty, Vanderbilt -- Flaherty hit .340 with 13 doubles and 32 RBI this season for the Commodores.

He hit .322 with 10 doubles, 2 triples, 20 RBI and swiped 8 bases.Jemile Weeks, Miami (Fla.) -- A second team Atlantic Coast Conference pick, he hit .320 with 10 doubles, 7 triples, 3 homers, 22 RBI and swiped 8 bases.Bradley Suttle, Texas -- Suttle hit .312 with 12 doubles, 3 homers and knocked in 32 RBI for the Longhorns in 2006.Bert Smith, Jacksonville St. -- A second team Ohio Valley Conference pick, Smith swiped 18 bases as he hit .308 with 8 doubles and 32 RBI.2B/3B Scott Elmendorf, Southern Illinois -- Elmendorf hit .353 with 9 doubles, 23 RBI and swiped 7 bases.
