RADFORD, VA--Freshman infielder Cameron Scott (Culpepper,VA) knocked in three runs for the Monarchs, including a run scoring single in the five-run seventh to liftOld Dominion (14-3) to an 11-10 victory over the Highlanders of Radford (2-9).
Making his first collegiate start, Scott knocked in Tyler Belcher (Bristol, VA.) with a sacrifice fly in the second inning. In the third inning another Scott sacrifice fly plated Patrick Nichols(Chesapeake, VA.). In the seventh with the game tied at six, Scott singled in Nichols to give ODU the lead for good.
Radford mounted a comeback in the bottom of the seventh on a two-run homerby Alex Gregory and in the ninth got a two-run double by pinch hitter Nick Minter. Freshman Ross Fetterly (Norfolk, VA.) then came on to get the next batter out and save the game for the Monarchs.
Patrick Nichols led ODU with four hits and three runs scored, while BryanCipolla (Plainview, NY.) knocked in two more runs on three hits to give him 25 RBI on the season. Jimmy Miles (Orlando, FL.), Mike Zahm (Omaha,NE.) and Keith Hahn (Valley Stream, NY.) also had two hits on the day. Nate Toth led Radford with four hits and three runs batted in, while Gregory Had three hits.
Hunter Hall(Virginia Beach, VA.) picked up the win in relief, his third of the season. He fanned five in four innings of work. ODU begins CAA play Friday with a three-game home series against George Mason, beginning at 7 p.m. at the Bud Metheny Baseball Complex.
