HAMPTON, VA - Michael Collins and spring newcomer Jenica Ryan battled shifty north easterly breezes and rain showers to take third place in A division at the MAISA/SAISA Intersectional hosted by Hampton University this weekend. Brendan Gay and Lisa Shapiro also took third place racing B division for Old Dominion.
Saturday's conditions included cloudy skies and the occasional rain shower combined with shifty north easterly breezes. Sunday, the clouds cleared and the wind picked up with measured northern winds gusts of up to 14 knots. The outgoing tide made for challenging starts, but 12 races were completed in both divisions. One protest was heard, but did not result in disqualification.
Collins and Ryan placed third in A division with 47 points, just under South Florida's second place score of 46 points. Gay and Shapiro placed third in B division with 48 points. The Sailing Monarchs placed third overll in the race with 95 points. College of Charleston finished first at the event with 62 points, South Florida finished second with 92.

NORFOLK, VA - This weekend's Szambecki Team Regatta held at the ODU Sailing center, saw Old Dominion place 7th. The race consisted of 52 races in FJ's and 420's. The conditions were slack on Saturday with north winds 5-10 mph. Sunday's conditions were much more favorable with solid 12-20 mph winds blowing out of the northwest.
Racing for the Monarchs were Charles Higgins, David Tunnicliffe, Bobby Noonan, Michael Brown, Wade Schon, Jennifer Adams, Maureen Castruccio, Jaclyn Finney, Ryan Kozoriz, and Elyssa Albert. Hobart William Smith College took first at the event.
