After Rutgers opened up a 3-0 lead in the top half of the third, ODU got on the board in the third inning when a Dana Arrowood (Woodbridge, VA) single scored junior Mike Zahm (Omaha, NE). Schoendienst, Miles, sophomore Chris Keenan (Chesapeake, VA), Zahm, junior Bryan Cipolla (Plainview, NY), and senior Justin Gregula (Washington, PA) all scored in the inning. Schoendienst collected two hits during the huge inning, a double and single.

The Monarchs would add three insurance runs in the seventh inning when Cipolla knocked in Keenan with an RBI single, Arrowood doubled home Zahm, and Gregula grounded out to scoring Cipolla.
