ODU Overcomes Deficit, Tops William & Mary 65-56

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (AP) - Isaiah Hunter scored 22 points and Old Dominion tightened its defense after a slow start and beat William & Mary 65-56 on Saturday night.

The Monarchs (14-5, 7-2 Colonial Athletic Association) held the Tribe to under 31 percent shooting in the second half after trailing 30-25 at halftime. Hunter had 12 points in the second half and Alex Loughton, who scored 12, had 10. He also hauled down a game high nine rebounds.

Laimis Kisielius scored 16 and Nathan Mann 14 for William & Mary (5-12, 0-8), which was outrebounded 41-28 and outscored 22-11 at the foul line on its home floor.

The Monarchs trailed 32-25 after Adam Payton's jumper to start the second half, then scored seven straight points to tie it. The game was tied four more times, but Abdi Lidonde hit a pair of free throws with 6:55 to play and ODU never trailed again.

The Tribe pulled within two twice, but Hunter fed Brian Henderson and then Drew Williamson for 3-pointers each time and Old Dominion finally pulled comfortably ahead.

Hunter added six assists, and two steals. Valdas Vasylius scored 11 points with five rebounds and twosteals. Brian Henderson had three assists, two blocks and a steal onthe evening.ODU had a season high 19 turnovers, but also forced the Tribe into 16 thanks to eight steals.

ODU returns home on Thursday to take on Drexel at 7 p.m. in the ConstantCenter.
