NORFOLK, Va. -- Old Dominion University coach Beth Anders was named the DITA/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) South Region Coach of the Year it was announced on Monday.
Anders, in her 23rd season at the helm of the storied Lady Monarch program, guided her team to a 19-6 overall record, a No. 3 national ranking in the final STX/NFHCA Poll, and its 16th NCAA Final Four Appearance. Back in November, she was named the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Coach of the Year.
During the season, the Lady Monarchs defeated some of the toughest competition in the country including eventual national champion Maryland, national runner-up Duke, and five other ranked opponents during the 2005 season.
Six of Anders' student-athletes landed on the All-South Region teams, while senior Janelle Engle (Mt. Joy, Pa.) and junior Dana Sensenig (Denver, Pa.) were named All-Americans. Old Dominion also nearly swept the end of the year CAA awards, earning both Player (Engle) and Rookie of the Year (Denise Admiraal).
The winningest Division I coach in the nation, Anders currently holds 461-78 career mark.
