NORFOLK, Va. -- The Old Dominion University field hockey team had six student-athletes land on the 2005 Dartfish/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division I All-Region Team.
Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Player of the Year Janelle Engle (Mt. Joy, Pa.) and CAA Tournament Most Outstanding Player Dana Sensenig (Denver, Pa.) were named First Team All-South Region. CAA Rookie of the Year Denise Admiraal (Heiloo, Holland) along with fellow CAA All-Rookie Team members Daphne Admiraal (Heiloo, Holland) and Nicolien van Nispen (Bilotheven, Holland) along with First Teamer Caroline Nichols (Va. Beach, Va.) were named to the second team.
Engle makes her second First Team All-Region appearance. The veteran member of the Lady Monarch squad is among the team's leaders in goals with 19 and has collected 10 assists for a total of 48 points. Entering last week's NCAA Tournament, Engle was ranked among the nation's top 10 in total points and total goals, and top 15 in points per game and goals per game.
Sensenig makes her second First Team All-South appearance as well. Old Dominion's leading scorer with 19 goals, 15 assists, and 53 points, continues to be among the nation's leaders in all three categories. Last week, Sensenig ranked fourth in total points, seventh in points per game, eighth in total goals, and fourth in total assists. Additionally she was also nationally ranked in goals per game and assists per game.
The Lady Monarch field hockey team is preparing for its 16th Final Four appearance and first since 2002 this week. Old Dominion, ranked third in the final STX/NFHCA Poll and seeded fourth in the NCAA Tournament, will take on top seeded Maryland in the semifinals on Friday at 5:30 p.m. The Lady Monarchs have appeared in all 25 NCAA Tournaments since its inception in 1981 and hold an NCAA record nine national championships in the sport.
