NORFOLK, Va. -- The eighth-ranked Old Dominion field hockey team returns to action against two ACC teams. The Lady Monarchs travel to College Park, Maryland on Friday to avenge a 2-1 overtime loss to #2 Maryland and then return home to host Duke on Sunday at Foreman Field at 1:00 p.m.

* Old Dominion upped its win streak to seven games as they downed Virginia Commonwealth, 5-0, and defending CAA Champions, Delaware, 6-2. On the week ODU outscored their opponents 11-2, outshot them 43-7, and outcornered them 40-5.
* The Lady Monarch's 5-0 over Virginia Commonwealth was the Lady Monarch's fourth shutout of the 2005 season.* Senior Janelle Engle collected a career-high four goals in the win over the Rams last Friday night. All four of her goals came from penalty corner opportunities.
* Last Sunday ODU avenged last year's 2004 CAA semifinal loss to the Fightin' Blue Hens that snapped a string of eight consecutive tournament titles for ODU by downing Delaware, 6-2. Three different Lady Monarchs registered a goal in the victory led by freshman Denise Admiraal with the hat trick. Junior Dana Sensenig collected two tallies, while senior Jennifer Angat also had a hand in the scoring column.
* The Lady Monarchs wasted no time in establishing a lead against the Fightin' Blue Hens. A mere 1:44 into the contest freshman Denise Admiraal picked up the first of her three goals. Old Dominion scored four unanswered goals within the first six and half minutes of the second half to establish the lead for good with Admiraal notching her second game-winner of the year.
* Senior Janelle Engle was named the CAA Player of the Week for the second time this season . Engle is currently the Lady Monarchs' second leading scorer with 12 goals, five assists, and 29 points.
* Freshman Denise Admiraal also picked up a weekly CAA honor as she was name Rookie of the Week for the second week in a row. Admiraal collected four goals and eight points in Old Dominion's 2-0 week and is currently ODU's third leading scorer with 12 points, three assists, and 27 points.
* The Lady Monarchs have already faced five of the country's top six teams in #2 Maryland, #3 Duke, #4 North Carolina, #5 American, and #6 Penn State. Other ranked opponents the Lady Monarchs have faced include #15 Michigan and #20 Virginia along with CAA foe, #16 James Madison. Old Dominion is still awaiting its match CAA newcomer #10 Northeastern (13-1), which will come on Friday, October 21st.
* In the national statistics also released on Tuesday, junior Caroline Nichols leads in the nation in total assists (14) and is tied in second for assists per game (1.00). Junior Dana Sensenig is also ranked in both categories, eighth in assists (10) and 15th in assists per game (0.71).
* A trio of Lady Monarchs are ranked nationally in the points column. Sensenig ranks fifth in points (34) and seventh in points per game (2.43), senior Janelle Engle ranks ninth in points (29) and 15th in points per game (2.07), and freshman Denise Admirral ranks 12th in points (27) and 18th in points per game (1.93). Additionally, the three are all tied for seventh in the nation in goals (12) and tenth in goals per game (0.86).
* As a team, Old Dominion is second in the country in scoring offense and margin of victory. The Lady Monarchs are netting an average of 4.15 goals per game and hold an average of 2.67 points over their opponents.
* Last time against Maryland: Old Dominion sophomore Sami McLenegan sent the gameinto overtime, netting the tying goal with .2 seconds left in regulation, but it would the Terps who would score the golden goal to win 2-1. Maryland's Paula Infante broke away down field in the closing seconds getting past the Lady Monarch defense to score the game-winner with 22 seconds left in the first overtime session.
* Last time against Duke: Five different Lady Monarchs scored in the victory as Old Dominion took a season-high 31 shots and handed the Blue Devils a 5-2 loss. Old Dominion struck early and never relinquished the lead. By halftime, the Lady Monarchs owned a 3-0 lead.

* The Terps have suffered only one loss thus far in the 2005 season. Its lone loss came in extra time as they fell 3-2 to #1 Wake Forest on penalty strokes. Before the loss, Maryland had won its first 11 games of the season.
* Maryland is currently the country's second-best defensive team as the Terps are only allowing 0.81 goals per game. The Terps have posted shutouts against Michigan, Stanford, Boston College, Harvard, and Duke.
* On the offensive side of the turf, the Terps are 13th nationally in goals per game with an average of 3.24 per outing.
* Senior forward/midfielder Tiffany Marsh leads the squad on the stat sheet. She has collected 33 points from 10 goals and 13 assists. She is tied for seventh nationally in points and 10th in points per game.
* Next on the stat sheet is senior forward Jackie Ciconte with 13 goals and 26 points followed by junior midfielder Paula Infante with 11 points, three assists, and 25 points.
* Sophomore Kathryn Masson and junior Christina Restivo have both seen ample time in the cage. Masson, the ACC Player of the Week, has played and started eight games with 32 saves, a .889 save percentage and the nation's leader in goals against average with a 0.46 gaa. Additionally, she has been in the keeper in net for four of Maryland's shutouts. Restivo has played in and started seven games with 13 saves, a 1.27 goals against average and a .591 save percentage.
* Masson was named the ACC Player of the Week after helping the #2 Terrapins to a 2-0 victory over #3 Duke with a career-high 14 saves. It was the first time all season the Blue Devils failed to score. Masson is undefeated in three career meetings against the Blue Devils.

* Duke will take on William & Mary in a neutral site contest at Foreman Field on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. before taking on Old Dominion.
* Duke leapt out to a 4-0 start at the beginning of the 2005 season for the second time in three years. The Blue Devils dominated their first two tournaments, winning the Champion's Tournament at Louisville and the Blue Hen Classic at Delaware and recording seven goals in a game twice in those first four contests.
* Since their loss to Old Dominion, the Blue Devils have won five of their last six with the lone loss coming against Maryland, 2-0. It was the first time all season Duke was held scoreless.
* Senior forward Katie Grant leads the squad with 13 goals, four assists, and 30 points. Grant missed the first match against the Lady Monarchs as she was the Under-21 National Team at the World Cup in Chile. Grant is fourth in the country in points per game (2.27).
* Senior forward Nicole Dudek is the squad's second leading scorer with 25 points from nine goals and seven assists. She is 16th in the nation averaging 2.00 points per outing.
* Sophomore Caitlin Williams and senior Christy Morgan have both seen significant time in the cage for Duke. Williams has made 34 saves and is posting a 0.97 goals against average and a .810 save percentage.
Williams' goals against average ranks her sixth nationally this week and is she also fourth nationally in save percentage. Meanwhile, Morgan has 28 saves, a .737 save percentage and 2.07 goals against average.
