ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The Old Dominion field hockey team returned to the win column on Sunday afternoon routing Miami (Ohio), 7-0, in a neutral site contest at Ocker Field on the campus of the University of Michigan.
Junior Dana Sensenig (Denver, Pa.), who tallied two goals, was one of six Lady Monarchs to reach the back of the RedHawks cage in ODU's largest shutout victory since a 11-0 win over Towson back on October 10th, 2003. The victory marked the Lady Monarchs' second shutout of the season and upped the team's record to 3-3 overall. Meanwhile, the RedHawks fell to 1-4.
Old Dominion fired off 32 shots, while holding Miami (Ohio) to only five first half shots. The Lady Monarchs also racked up 18 corner attempts compared to the two taken by the RedHawks.
Daphne Admiraal (Heiloo, Holland) started the scoring barrage early and tallied what would turn out to be the game-winner a mere 2:22 into the contest. Before the end of the first half, junior Caroline Nichols (Va. Beach, Va.), Sensenig, and senior Janelle Engle (Mt. Joy, Pa.) would each earn goals to give ODU the 4-0 lead at intermission.
Moments into the second half the Lady Monarchs continued to be scoring machines as Denise Admiraal (Heiloo, Holland), sister of the Lady Monarchs game-winning scorer, put away the first of three ODU second half tallies. Senior Jennifer Angat (Va. Beach, Va.) and Sensenig's second goal of the afternoon would round of the Old Dominion scoring for the day.
The RedHawks made 12 stops in net from the combined efforts of Kerri Orr and Megan Stengel. Old Dominion's Mary Cate Gordon (Oreland, Pa.) stopped two shots in the win.
