Monarch Sailors Finish Eighth at Nationals

KINGSTON, RI- The Old Dominion University coed sailing squad finishedeighth at the 2001 ICSA Dinghy Sailing National Championships Friday .Tufts University won the event with 215 points, while Old Dominion compiled 286points.

The Monarchs A division boat sailed by Adam Burns (Youngstown, NY.), Elisabeth Biondi (Norwalk, CT.) finished eighth with 147 points, while the B division boat of Brad Funk (Harbor Bluffs, FL.), Justin Castagne (Trinidad, West Indies), Emily Ruiter (Freehold, NJ.) and Debbie Capozzi (Bayport, NY.) were ninth with 139 points after the 18 completed races.

In all, Old Dominion competed in all six national championship eventsthis year. In the fall, the Monarchs were third in the ICSA Sloops, Brad Funkplaced seventh at the ICSA Singlehandeds, Sally Barkow was ninth at the women'sSinglehandeds. Earlier this week, The Monarchs were fifth at the Team RaceNationals and sixth in the Women's Dinghy Nationals.
