Former ODU standout and MLS player William Yomby is in the midst of his fourth season as an assistant coach at his alma mater in 2021.
In his first season back at ODU in 2018, he helped ODU to a second-place finish in the C-USA with a 6-2-0 mark in league play and wrapped up the 2018 season with a 11-5-2 overall record. During the regular season, ODU faced two nationally ranked opponents in No. 1 UNC and No. 3 Kentucky. In the largest home crowd of the season, the Monarchs came to a 1-1 draw against No. 1 UNC on October 9. At the C-USA Tournament, No. 2 seeded ODU shutout New Mexico in the quarterfinals.
In 2020-21, Yomby helped Josh Thacker to being named the Conference USA Freshman of the Year. Thacker was named to the All C-USA Second Team and All-Freshman Team, while Djibril Doumbia was named to the All-Conference USA Third Team and Ettore Casadei joined Thacker on the All-Freshman Team. Thacker also garnered College Soccer News All-Freshman Team honors. 19 Monarchs were named to the Conference USA Honor Roll, while seven student-athletes earned a C-USA Commissioner's Academic Medal.
He returns to his alma mater where he made 48 starts and earned Second Team All-CAA, CAA All-Tournament Team and an All-State honors. Following his time playing collegiately for ODU, the Kansas City Wizards made Yomby the 23rd overall pick in the 2008 MLS SuperDraft. He then played in the United Soccer League (USL) when he transferred to the Puerto Rico Islanders later in 2008 where he competed in the CONCACAF Champions league and made it to the Semifinal. In 2009, Yomby signed on with the USL first division Richmond Kickers. The defender was a six-time All-League First Team honoree, as well as Defender of the Year. Yomby contributed to over 80 shutouts in the nine seasons with the team.

Yomby spent five seasons from 2013-2017 as a volunteer assistant coach at VCU while playing professionally with the Richmond Kickers.
Yomby holds the USSF A License and multiple NCAA certificates.
A 2009 Graduate of Old Dominion University, Yomby received a Bachelor of Arts degree.
