Former Charlotte women's basketball head coach Ed Baldwin enters his first season as an assistant coach at Old Dominion.
"Ed has been coaching on the college level for 28 years," said McCray-Penson. "He comes from a pedigree of great coaches, starting out with the late Kay Yow and also Jim Foster and Dawn Staley."
Baldwin most recently coached in the WNBA, where he coached for three seasons with the Dallas Wings and Tulsa Shock.
"I am a really excited to be a part of the rebirth of Old Dominion women's basketball under Coach McCray," said Baldwin. "I feel that we have all of the necessary resources to build a great foundation and a great program."
Prior to his three seasons in the WNBA, Baldwin spent four years as an assistant coach at Ohio State on Jim Foster's staff from 2008 to 2013. He was also the Director of Basketball Operations at Ohio State during the 2007-08 season.
Before his stint at Ohio State, Baldwin coached alongside Dawn Staley at Temple from 2000 to 2002 and also served as an assistant at South Carolina for two seasons from 2002 to 2004.
Baldwin made his name in the head coaching realms with a successful 13-year tenure as head coach at Charlotte from 1988 to 2000. Baldwin left as the winningest women's basketball coach in program history with 175 victories, establishing single-season school records for wins and winning percentage.
Prior to his arrival at Charlotte, Baldwin worked for three years as an assistant to the legendary Kay Yow at NC State.
Baldwin began his coaching career at Raleigh's Broughton High School. The Caps compiled an incredible 124-26 record during his six years and won state 4-A championships in 1983 and 1985.
Baldwin graduated from North Carolina Central University with a degree in social studies in 1976. As an athlete, he was a four-year letterwinner on the offensive line in football.
