Assistant coach Ashley Langford completed her first year with the Lady Monarch basketball program in 2016-17.
In 2016-17, Langford assisted ODU to a 17-14 overall record, including an 11-7 mark in Conference USA play. Over a slate that included six games against NCAA Tournament teams, the Lady Monarchs hit their stride late in the season, going 9-3 in a 12-game span from Jan. 14 to March 2. The No. 6 seed in the C-USA Tournament, ODU won its first round game over UTEP, before falling to No. 3 seed and eventual tournament runner-up Southern Miss, 80-74, in the quarterfinals.
Langford joined Old Dominion from the U.S. Naval Academy where she held the position of assistant coach and recruiting coordinator. At Navy, she was responsible for creating and implementing a recruiting system with responsibilities that included coordinating and providing oversight for the recruitment of prospective student-athletes and assisting with initial eligibility for incoming prospective student-athletes. She also served as a floor coach for position work and was heavily involved in game preparation on and off the court, including scouting reports and film sessions.
Langford also had stints at the University of Denver and Bucknell University as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator and received her Master of Business Administration at Auburn University after serving as a graduate assistant with the Tigers from 2009-2011. During her time at Denver, she helped guide the team to a Summit League Tournament runner-up title and signed the #2 recruiting class in the league according to CGBR during the 2013-14 season and the #1 class in the WAC during the 2012-13 season.
Langford graduated from Tulane University in 2009, earning her Bachelor of Science in Management and was a four-year member of the women's basketball program under two-time C-USA Coach of the Year Lisa Stockton. She was honored all four years on the All-Conference USA team and was named a Freshman All-American from Women’s Basketball News Science. During her time on the court, she guided her team to a C-USA regular season title, a WNIT appearance and graduated as the program’s all-time assists leader with 722 helpers. She was also a standout in the classroom, as she was a two-time member of the Conference USA All-Academic Team and was named the league’s Scholar Athlete of the Year as a senior. Langford was also the President of the Student Athlete Advisory Council and was a graduate of the WBCA “So You Want to be a Coach Program.”
