Jordan Brooks joined the coaching staff in August of 2022 serving as an assistant coach after serving as the Director of Recruiting for a year at Xavier University.
“We are very fortunate to have Jordan join our coaching staff. He is a young, energetic coach with a very bright future. His work ethic and ability to connect with people will have a positive impact on our Monarch program,” said Jones.
The 2022-23 season saw the Monarchs rejoin the Sun Belt Conference and finished 19-12 overall and 11-7 in league play. ODU ended the regular season knocking off the top two teams heading into the final weekend, Southern Miss and Marshall, at home. The Monarchs played their share of tight contests going 6-2 in games decided by three points or less, including an Imo Essien buzzer-beating jumper at Texas State for a one-point win. Chaunce Jenkins was named to the Second Team All-Sun Belt Conference squad.
At Xavier, Brooks helped the Musketeers finish 23-13 and win the National Invitation Tournament (NIT) defeating Texas A&M in the finals.
Prior to Xavier, he served two years at Southeastern Louisiana and two years at Howard. While at Howard, Brooks recruited R.J. Cole, who went on to win MEAC Rookie of the Year and MEAC Player of the Year honors during his career. He also recruited and helped develop All-Conference players Chad Lott and Charles Williams.
Brooks helped Howard to a seven-game turnaround in his second season, as the Bison finished 17-17 overall and 10-6 in conference play. The Bison finished third in the MEAC and recorded their first winning regular season in four years. He has also helped the program receive its first post-season bid in over 20 years, making the College Basketball Invitational (CBI).
Upon the completion of that season, Brooks was recognized as one of the Nation’s top young coaches as the National Association of Basketball Coaches named Brooks to its NABC 30-Under-30 Team.
Before Howard, Brooks coached and recruited at the 14U, 15U, and 16U grassroot levels developing several NCAA Division I student-athletes from top programs around Washington, D.C., including DC Assault, Team Takeover, Team Durant, and Team St8ment.
Brooks played his collegiately at Hampton (2007-2011), including the first three seasons under former Howard men’s basketball head coach Kevin Nickelberry and last under Buck Joyner.
In 2011, he earned his bachelor’s degree in sport management at Hampton. A year later, Brooks finished his MBA at Goldey-Beacom College, specializing in marketing management.
Brooks attended Charles Herbert Flowers High School in Springdale, Md., in the Washington, D.C., area, where he earned All-MET and All-PG County First Team honors.
“I am really excited about having the opportunity to work and learn from Coach Jeff Jones here at ODU. The program here has a lot of history and tradition and I am happy to be a part of it,” Brooks said. “I can’t wait to get to work and join an unbelievable staff of a great program, but to also help and develop the young men here on and off the court.”
