Kelvin Jefferson

Jefferson joined the ODU Monarch Basketball staff in May of 2016 after spending seven seasons as the head coach at South Kent School in Connecticut. He is now in the middle of his third season in Norfolk.

Jefferson served an assistant coach under Jeff Jones at American University from 2001-05. At American, he recruited Derrick Mercer, who was the 2006 Conference Rookie of the Year, the 2009 Patriot League Player of the Year and a CollegeInsider.com Mid Major All-American. He also recruited Garrison Carr, a two-time Patriot League Tournament MVP and the 2008 Patriot League Preseason Player of the Year. 

At South Kent, Jefferson helped develop six NBA players and over 50 Division I players, as well as current Monarch, Aaron Carver. Jefferson coached four NBA Draft picks:
-Russ Smith: Won a National Championship at Louisville, was an AP All-American and was drafted in 2014 Second Round.
-Moe Harkless: 2012 Big East Rookie of the Year, was drafted 15th overall in 2012 and is currently with the Portland Trailblazers.
-Nik Stauskas: Drafted 8th overall in 2014, was the 2014 Big Ten Player of the Year and a NABC All American.
-Ricky Ledo: Drafted in the Second Round of the 2013 NBA Draft and played in the 2012 Jordan Brand Classic All-American game.

Jefferson also coached two Connecticut State Gatorade Players of the Year: Matt Moyer and Tremont Waters. 

Prior to his stint at South Kent, Jefferson coached at Vermont from 1999-2001. At Vermont, he recruited Taylor Coppenrath, who was a three-time America East Player of the Year and TJ Sorrentine, the America East Rookie of the Year and Player of the Year.

Jefferson coached at Stony Brook from 2005-2007 and at Colgate from 2007-2008.

Jefferson is known as a tireless recruiter who is well connected. 

A native of Norwalk, Conn., Jefferson is a 1995 graduate of Southern Connecticut State University where he earned a bachelor of science in journalism.
