NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion men’s basketball head coach Jeff Jones has named Kelvin Jefferson an assistant coach. Jefferson served an assistant coach under Jones at American University from 2001-05.
“I am very excited to have Kelvin Jefferson join our coaching staff,” Jones said. “Kelvin was my assistant coach at American University for four years and we enjoyed a lot of success together on the court and on the recruiting trail. Kelvin had a big role in recruiting the foundation of my AU teams that went to back-to-back NCAA Tournaments. He brings an engaging personality, a tireless work ethic, a great background in recruiting nationally and has really grown as an on-court coach. I look forward to working with Kelvin again and believe that he will be a very valuable member of our coaching staff.”
For the past sevens years, Jefferson has been the head coach at South Kent School in Connecticut. At South Kent, he helped develop six NBA players, as well as current Monarch, Aaron Carver.
Prior to his stint at South Kent, Jefferson coached at Vermont from 1999-2001, at Stony Brook from 2005-2007 and at Colgate from 2007-2008.
“I am truly excited to reunite with Coach Jones at Old Dominion University,” said Jefferson. “Jeff is not only one of the best coaches in the business, he is a friend and a great family man. I am looking forward to joining the staff and hitting the recruiting trail with John Richardson and Bryant Stith. My time at South Kent has allowed me to develop strong recruiting ties not just nationally but internationally and I plan on using every contact I have to attract the type of players that the Old Dominion fans are accustomed too. I am truly grateful for this opportunity to work not just with great people, but at a great university as well.”
A native of Norwalk, CT, Jefferson is a 1995 graduate of Southern Connecticut State University where he earned a bachelor of science in journalism.
Jefferson replaces Lamar Barrett on Old Dominion’s staff.
