Julie (Hodge) Petropulos completed her third season as an assistant coach with Old Dominion Field Hockey in 2018. 

In 2018, the Monarchs posted a 10-7 record and were ranked as high as No. 11 in the country. ODU recorded three wins over ranked opponents, including a signature victory over No. 8 Virginia in overtime on the road. For the season, ODU outscored its opponents, 40-27, and posted five shutouts. Individually, Erin Huffman and Rebecca Birch were both named First Team All-Big East. Huffman also earned First Team All-NFHCA South Region honors, while Birch was named Second Team All-Region.

In 2017, her second season at ODU, Petropulos helped guide the Monarchs to an 8-10 record. ODU played one of the toughest schedules in the nation in 2017, taking on eight top-25 opponents, including four top-five foes. The Monarchs qualified for the Big East Tournament, but fell in the first round to Liberty. Two ODU players in Danielle Grega and Erin Huffman earned NFHCA All-Region honors, while three players in Grega, Huffman and Julia Van Dorsten landed on the All-Big East Team.

In 2016, her first season as an assistant coach, the Monarchs turned in a 7-10 record, as Petropulos helped ODU mount wins over eventual NCAA champion Delaware, 3-2 OT, on Sept. 2, and nationally-ranked Liberty, 2-1 OT, on Sept. 30. Under Petropulos' guidance, senior Meg Byas racked up several accolades such as: first team All-BIG EAST and first team VaSID All-State, second team NFHCA All-South Region and was selected to play in the NFHCA Senior Game. Petropulos also helped guide Danielle Grega to first team All-BIG EAST and second team NFHCA All-South Region recognition as well as helping her to land a spot on the United States U-21 Women's National Team. 

Petropulos, who graduated from Old Dominion in 2013, was a four-year starter for the Monarchs from 2009 to 2012, and served as a volunteer assistant for the team in 2015.

In 2015, Petropulos also served as the travel club coordinator for Potomac Rapids Field Hockey Club in Leesburg, Virginia. 

In 2013-14, Petropulos was an assistant coach at Ursinus College, while also coaching four different youth teams at the W.C. Eagles Field Hockey Club in Spring City, Pennsylvania. Additionally, Petropulos has also coached several club teams in Auckland, New Zealand, as well as Oscar Smith Middle School. 

During her playing career at Old Dominion, Petropulos was a four-time NFHCA National Academic Squad member and helped lead the Monarchs to back-to-back CAA titles in 2010 and 2011 and a Final Four appearance in 2011. She was named to the CAA All-Rookie squad in 2009 and earned NSCA All-American honors in 2011.

Petropulos, a native of Downington, Pennsylvania, graduated from ODU in May of 2013 with a degree in exercise science and a minor in recreational therapy.
